When DS had liquid nystatin as a baby it made his face numb.  His tongue flopped out, slavering all over eyes drooped, couldn't swallow - seriously affected his nervous system. A the time I put it down to benzoates (preservatives in it).  We have since learned he has a serious problem with sulphur and has reacted to many meds containing sulphur (a lot contain sulphur as it increase effect of medication).  I don't know if nystatin contans sulphur.  For us the effect is build up not instant.

Nystatin also has a strep connection. Streptomyces noursei is the source. see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nystatin
