Guest guest
MEDICAID is good for paying for Rx medicine. TX Children and all the major hospitals will take MEDICAID. Guest guest
So you don't do speech, OT, or PT? I know when we didn't have MDCP, we went to a different speech therapist who didn't file insurance and didn't take Medicaid. It didn't matter because insurance wouldn't reimburse me for the speech anyway. but then we couldn't also afford PT and OT, which he needed, and so we had to rely on the district. (God save us all). They wouldn't even agree to PT, and the first OT he had at age three was wonderful, but then she left, and the OT has not been worth a pittance since. Now that he is on the waiver, he is finally getting adequate therapy, and it is showing. He is improving. So like I said, it has been a God send for us with all his prescription meds, therapies, and regular doctor visits for his chronic infections. We were just about completely busted when it finally kicked in, so it saved us. I wish you could find something it could help you with. But I agree with you, if there is a service you can't use, they ought to be able to give it to someone else.I know when I found out this program that was providing Dynavoxes for free to kids who qualified, my son was past needing one (but oh! what I would have given to have had one when he was non-verbal!), so I got the forms and handed out at the school and to every parent around here with a child I knew would qualify. A lot of families got them. I just wish more organizations would raise money to help the kids NOW with things they need now that can make all the difference --things like speech, PT, OT and biomed treatment. I know ThoughtfulHouse is giving some treatment scholarships to those beginning biomed (Boy I wish that was around eight years ago!) We have been chelating again, and I already see a change! he is not as anxious. Today was the first day in over ten months that he did not ask me once about being on time and not being late to pick him up (I am rarely ever late, but he frets about it and was getting upset if I was even a minute late). I know heavy metals can cause anxiety. We will see what has come out when his urine toxic metals gets back. The last time a whole bunch of lead and arsenic came out. I know what you mean about the paperwork. I had had about a hundred dollars in his name, and they came back and I had to answer a lot more questions. After than I went and closed the account so that he has nothing in his name. We needed the money for supplements anyway. So as far as MDCP goes, You will just be using the respite? Guest guest
We pay our own premiums. How does all this work if I want to leave something behind (like a home to live in) if something should happen to us? I know he can't inherit anything, but can you leave it to a trust for him? I want my son kept in his own home where he is comfortable. My worst nightmare is thinking of him having to go to a TEXAS institution. He may very well wind up very independent, but I want to do some planning soon and consider all contingencies.
Guest guest
Hi Haven,We are setting up a Microboard Coalition through the Arc of Tx which is a nonprofit for the benefit of our children only. I like this bc it leaves the responsibility of making decisions for our kids with a group of people we pick and not any 1 person. Guest guest
Ok - hit send too soon! I was asking about a microboard conf. I saw coming up in the Woodlands. I'd like to attend for my son but really don't know much about this. I'd love to hear some opinions in this before I spend the time/money on this. Thanks!
