Ditto to what you said. The struggle for me always is: is dieting worth the "deprivation"? In the end I'm sure it is but I'm at a diet standstill at the moment so to speak. I have lots of friends and get invited to some rockin' parties and such, which I enjoy! On the other hand, I'm not happy with my tummy. I do like the rest of my body, just not my tummy. I even talk to my tummy sometimes. hey jen .. I feel VERY frustrated and I'm not sure if I should have done this rotation or not since before I started CLX I was starting to lose weight. I guess I will keep going until the end. Guest guest
If it is deprivation, then it isn't worth it. I teach my WW members NOT to deprive themselves. If you have to deprive yourself then you won't stick with it. The key is to find a way to enjoy your favorite foods (and/or drinks) and still lose weight (and later, continue to do that and maintain the weight loss). Moderation, portion control, picking and choosing when it is important to indulge and when you are just taking it because you want it because you're in a mood (and more likely to overdo). So, go to the parties and enjoy what is there but pick out your most favorite, gotta have foods/drinks to enjoy and skip or take very small portions of the things you can get anytime and aren't special. Eventually, you and your tummy will get along better! ;-) Jen's exercise for 02/11/11 Friday ChaLEAN Extreme Rotation Push Phase Week 2 Jen's exercise for 02/11/11 Friday ChaLEAN Extreme Rotation Push Phase Week 2I didn't walk today because my knees where hurting but I did do my scheduled CLX workout.I did Push Circuit 2 today below are the exercises, weights I used and notes about the workout: Push Circuit #2 – DVD 3Total time: 35:01 minutes STANDARD OVERHEAD PRESS - 12 lbs SINGLE-LEG LUNGE - 17 lbs RIGHT LEG SINGLE-LEG LUNGE - 17 lbs LEFT LEG I'm going to increase my weights to 20 lbs for the single-leg lunges REVERSE FLY - 8 lbsARNOLD PRESS - 10 lbsEXTREME ARNOLD PRESS - 10 lbs I'm going to increase my weights to 12 lbs on the Arnold presses SINGLE-LEG DEAD LIFT - 15 lbs RIGHT LEG SINGLE-LEG DEAD LIFT - 15 lbs LEFT LEG EXTREME DEAD LIFTS – BOTH LEGS - 15 lbs I'm still having problems with my balance when I do this exercise so I'm going to keep my weights the same. Guest guest
Ah, but it's all so very complex, psychologically. My mother grew up believing that a 1/4 piece of pie was a proper portion, or donuts and coffee cake are regular breakfast staples (and hence I grew up that way, too!!) Telling myself that 1/4 pie is ridiculous and an 1/8th is far more reasonable doesn't erase the FEELING of having deprived myself of what I was taught is proper. I've been seriously thinking of seeking counseling -- maybe even hypnotism -- to try and rid myself of these deeply seated, but improper feelings. It would be a lot easier to loose weight if I wasn't plagued with all this emotional baggage concerning food! Indyrose > > > > hey jen .. Guest guest
But just because you feel some way doesn't mean you have to act on it or allow it to control your behavior. Many, many people were taught to "clean their plate," eating past the point of satisfaction and were made to feel badly if they didn't do that but they do learn to not do that anymore and learn to change the tapes in their heads and they lose weight. It isn't easy nor fast but it definitely happens. I'm not trying to say it isn't complex and I'm the first person to say weight management is much more a head thing than a food thing but I see people make huge breakthroughs and huge changes all the time. Sometimes it is two steps forward, one step back but, when they are determined, they still move forward more than not. I grew up with a mother that had totally distorted ideas about food and weight and, of course, grew up that way too, with a younger sister who went so far as to become anorexic/bullimic. I've managed to move past a lot of my own issues and I truly speak from the struggle, from the experience, not from an ivory tower of distance. Counseling can absolutely help to deal with the pain you associate with food and record new tapes (or should we be saying burn new DVDs in our head now?). You won't get rid of the feelings completely but you will learn to talk back to them and not let them control you. There are a lot of WW members that I'd love to see go into counseling but of course, I'm not qualified to actually say anything like that, so I don't. I'm still sure it would help them make better (or any) progress. Meanwhile, I see many others who, without it, do conquer HUGE issues and create new relationships with food, themselves and other people too. Guest guest
awesome advice ! My folks indeed gave me the " starving kids in Africa " shpeel, hence I cleaned my plate.I was never overweight though until about age 22.
