Can you send a link to this cleanse kit, Judy??  Interesting!  I too eat out of boredom and habit.I hope to get another Colonix kit with my tax refund.  I like to do it once a year.  It's good to clean out your insides once in awhile!

So after my Superbowl debacle, a friend of mine sent me a 3-day juice cleanse.  I will not lie, when I looked it up online I was shocked by the price (more than I would ever pay for dinner let alone juice!)  But I will say it was amazing and maybe it was worth the price. (I think because it was so expensive I made myself do it!)  First it is all organic and freshly prepared and shipped over night from NYC.  You receive 6 juices a day that are labeled 1-6.  You drink them in that order with at least an hour between and you should be done 2 hours before bed.  If you need to chew you get celery, cucumber and can have 1/4 avocado a day.   They were surprisingly good (although the green ones were took some getting use to).

The amazing

thing is I have done slimfast etc and other sort of liquid diets and I always get that hunger pain in my tummy.. like you feel the acids working on nothing.  With these, none of that feeling.  In fact I was never hungry.  Must be the combination of greens and juice and keeping my blood sugar stable. who knows (I have the ingredients if anyone wants them... I am trying to recreate them myself )

But here is what it taught me, I mainly eat due to situation or habit- not really emotion or hunger.   I would come home sit down drink juice 5 and think I am hungry but as I thought about it .. no I was not it was just habit that at that time I should eat!  Wow! Or one day I was home just watching some TV and again I thought I need something (I got some cucumbers which I now love!) but really after 2 I thought I am just eating due to habit!!!

I hope I  can keep this new perspective. I realize I will fail now and

then but it really made me get in better touch with my feelings of hunger vs desire to chew or desire for a food not really hungry. The other upside is I lost nearly 8lbs.. ok it is mostly water weight but my belly is not as big and I just feel better (knees are awesome)

So I may put $1per week I stay on WW aside and try this again in 6 months...judy

For the times when I habitually want something to eat, like watching TV or such,

I've turned to knitting/crocheting. It keeps my hands busy, and eating around

yarn is difficult to keep everything clean -- grease on your yarn/fibers in your

food.

I'm glad it worked for you but I would rather eat healthy and drink a lot of water...I always do when I walk on my treadmill. That keeps me feeling full, or eating broth-based soups or drinking green tea...that's what I've started doing and it's been working. That's strange you got hunger pains when you drank slimfast because when I took it to work it kept me full for over 4 hours. Jen Subject: OT- Relationship with

Every body is different. These juices are REALLY healthy.. greens, fruits, vegetable protein. all organic and freshly made and overnight-ed to you. I always drink at min 64 oz water a day but on this you had to drink at least that.. .I think that is what helped flush you out. I think the slimfast sugars and carbs makes me hungry.. but everyone is different.. I think for me this has taught me to eat simple vegetables, fruits and healthy proteins.. and try to avoid the chips I love :)To: exercisevideos Sent: Thu, February 17, 2011 12:38:44 AMSubject: Re: OT- Relationship with Food.

juicing with whole fresh veggies and fruits are terrific just watch the portions(more sugar or vitamins than you need) but don't leave out other foods(grains and protein sources plant protein very acceptable!). just the nutrition student on her high horse worried about my fitness buds :P if i have a bad day the following day i cut out saturated fat sources like animal fats and opt for beans and peas and other plant protein sources. also cuts way back on the calories while not depriving of nutrients. the main focus of my current nutrition class is nutrients and making sure we fall into the guidelines our body needs while staying within the calorie limit for our personal goals. slimfast has probably more sugar then MOST ppl need depending on what they eat throughout the day, and they are not natural nutrients, most of them added which is why some ppl

may still feel hungry afterward. just their body needed more and the drink didn't supply enough of it. plus liquids digest quickly through the system so your body doesn't stay full long which is why jack was big on juicing with whole fresh foods b/c they still provided the fiber and nutrients to help your body stay feeling full. and maybe one day i will write my own report on what is hunger and appetite b/c i did get 97% on that test LOL there is a difference but i bet tonya could fill u in since she finished that class! you can get my textbook at amazon for under $30 called nurtition an applied approach by janice thompson. a lot of science behind the hows and whys but not intimidating at all! i actually didn't know that taking my multi-vitamin ON TOP of my diet could lead to a toxicity in vitamins and minerals that my body doesn't need. it will only absorb so much for the body to use but WOW! now if i do take it i will take it at the end of the day if i didn't get all the veggies/fruit nutrients i needed. outstanding chapter on fats and why they are just as important as carbs AND how protein is NOT an energy source and u do not want your body to use it as one b/c it could cause irreversible damage. this is just ONE nutrition course i have to take. although it probably will not be my area after i graduate it is still great to know this stuff and that they are keeping it in next

year's catalog of classes for B.S of Exercise Phys. tonya already did this course so i think she is on the next level, i have been stealing her ideas LOL. KASSIAwife, mother, student, kettlebelleSubject: Re: OT- Relationship with Food. To: exercisevideos Date: Thursday, February

i have never tried it so i never read the label to see the sugar content. if its better then not eating at all then u should be fine. at least keep the GI metabolizing for energy until you can sit down for a meal. i never was the one for liquid diets/cleanses just for the sake of doing them but if its juicing with veggies/fruits then its not a bad thing, just wouldn't be my only way of eating if i could help it. i know you do your best with your job so u are fine there for energy to make it through until you get a meal in and you say its not an everyday long term thing. believe me my professor is a not a "bad foods" person, she loves pizza hut as much as the students do LOL its just what else are we taking in and are we balancing everything out nutrition wise (enough foods from each food group etc). if you have a slim fast for lunch make sure to get a salad

maybe with a small amount of protein and an oil based dressing (oils are the good fats just read the labels to make sure). a veggie wrap to eat on the go is another good option (omit mayo and have mustard or go nekkid!) i drive ppl at subway mad b/c i like extra spinach on my sandwiches to get the good stuff for less in the dark green. another thing i didn't know was about the protein. i always assumed it to be an energy source like anything else but scientifically that is a no there! its really the fat that gives energy and since it takes time for the body to break it down to absorb it, it keeps you full longer. the protein is amino acids to build/repair body tissue and central nervous system and cell functions. i still use my fitness pal and so does tonya(i hope she is reading all this LOL) but when i do a project for a nutrition plan i have to use mypyramid.gov b/c they are more involved with mirco nutrients from foods than fitness

pal is which is the point of the project. this is the step stone to the athletics training/nutrition classes i will be taking in another year. KASSIAwife, mother, student, kettlebelleSubject: Re: OT- Relationship with Food. To: exercisevideos Date: Thursday, February 17, 2011, 2:56

Great post.. I do believe it is about balance!! why I like WW- it teaches balance in food and such..Balance is why I did my cleanse. My body was totally out of wack from a day of insanely over indulging.. The 3 days really helped me to refocus my nutrition and help rid me of the bloat and I am sure toxins.. anyway.. I love my pizza and chips but I am loving my fruits much more now!thanks kassia for all the info!!!judyFrom: Kassia

Ive been using both my fitness pal and my fitbit to track my food and exercise. I think that my fitness pal is easier to use but my fitbit shows a graph that let's me know if my calorie intake is lower than my exercise which I like...so right now I'm making myself crazy using both. juices still don't have the same amount of fiber than the whole fruit or veggie does so for the best hunger satisfication and least amount of calorie intake you're still better off eating the whole thing.

7 or more i bow to u LOL you should be okay if you are getting balanced meals(fiber, grains, all that jazz). if anything just look up the content of the food of what it provides. they refer to vitamins and minerals as micronutrients b/c they make up such a small part of what we need and we usually get plenty from our food if our bodies don't make them themselves, and its not for energy per say its for energy access! its so your carbs/fats can travel through the bloodstream and provide the needed cells with the needed energy and usually most will get flushed out. some vitamins are fat soluble though and can be stored (A D E K) and come from mainly dairy products so keep it to the good stuff and you get just what you need. probably why all these years i never understood doctors worriment over supplements but now i get it. we don't need to overdo it on the

stuff if we are eating healthy! i usually notice when i log my food that i just didn't get as many veggies as i should. i am not much for fruit other then twice a day just b/c of accessibility. eating on the go is one apple to or from fitness lab and something with breakfast. veggies make up nearly my lunch and dinner meals and maybe one snack when i get home. LOL! Thanks, Kassia! Yep, I get whole grains, dairy, fiber, protein, healthy fats and, of course, chocolate! ;-)

I usually get 1 or 2 veggie servings in my omelet in the morning (1 egg and an egg white often), 2-4 veggie servings with my lunch, another 2-4 veggie servings with dinner plus I usually have at least 1 banana and ocassionally an apple during the day too.

sounds better! (still not my choice, I'm not comfortable with cleanses other than just water and eating clean, just a personal preference though...)

when I make smoothies I put in the whole fruit and puree it but the only danger with that is that it seems easier to drink larger quantities than I would eat and others report that too. Chewing seems to help people eat more slowly and take in less but feel just as or more satisfied. just "fdod for thought..."

I think for me this has taught me to eat simple vegetables, fruits and healthy proteins.. and try to avoid the chips I love :)

Thank you, Judy! (Just don't ask me how many Girl Scout cookies I ate today though! Okay, 3, not terrible but not ideal. I strongly believe in treats though, not deprivation! I get in all my WW Good Health Guidelines then enjoy my treats!)

Ground up fiber one with what spices?? I've never heard of this, how interesting!! I love zucchini too. When you say dipped, do you mean covered in, like a coating? I'm very intrigued!

That does sound fascinating, thanks for sharing it with us! So, how does one know if they should take a multi-vitamin or not? I get at least 7 or more servings of fruits and vegetables in most days.

So interesting, thanks for sharing all this Kassia. I now feel less guilty that I sometimes forget to take my vitamin. I am really good with fruits and beans (I mostly eat vegetarian during the week and rely on beans, lentils, etc. for my main meals) need to be better w/ green leafy veggies. I 'm not sure why I struggle w/ green leafy veggies, b/c I do enjoy them - I guess they are just not easy to eat on the run - although, why not just munch on whole leaves of spinach or romaine lettuce like a bunny? Hmm... I should add a salad in every day.

7 or more i bow to u LOL you should be okay if you are getting balanced meals(fiber, grains, all that jazz). if anything just look up the content of the food of what it provides. they refer to vitamins and minerals as micronutrients b/c they make up such a small part of what we need and we usually get plenty from our food if our bodies don't make them themselves, and its not for energy per say its for energy access! its so your carbs/fats can travel through the bloodstream and provide the needed cells with the needed energy and usually most will get flushed out. some vitamins are fat soluble though and can be stored (A D E K) and come from mainly dairy products so keep it to the good stuff and you get just what you need. probably why all these years i never understood doctors worriment over supplements but now i get it. we don't need to overdo it on the stuff if we are eating healthy! i usually notice when i log my food that i just

didn't get as many veggies as i should. i am not much for fruit other then twice a day just b/c of accessibility. eating on the go is one apple to or from fitness lab and something with breakfast. veggies make up nearly my lunch and dinner meals and maybe one snack when i get home. KASSIA

i am the opposite, i have a problem getting legumes in b/c i only like so many but they take time to prepare where as greens are wash and eat( love baby spinach!) usually pile them on a sandwhich myself, to the point you wonder if i put anything else on it LOL. once we are aware then we make baby steps to change what we want. Donna, veggies for me are the easiest thing for me to eat on the run.  I make veggie packs on Sundays when I make food for the week.  I cut up carrots, celery and radishes and put them in tupperware containers.  If on the go you could put them in ziplock bags too and put in your purse.

I also love spinach, just plain.  You can buy baby spinach in a bag that's all ready to go, though it cheaper to buy it fresh and cut it up yourself, which is what I've started to do because I'm broke!
