Guest guest
Have you tried fluffing them up or scrunching them from time to time as they dry? it seems to create a softer overall effect.. We do not use fabric softener either.. and actually quite like the scratchy effect of the towels .. In Germany they recommend NEVER using softener on towels or bed linen, because using fabric softener builds up on these fabrics and makes drying in particular more difficult and I think makes the towels less hygenic. Tracey Hi all, I am trying to economise by using the tumble dryer less. We have lots of seasonal allergies which means we can't dry clothes on the line in the Spring and Summer. I find drying clothes inside on a clothes airer works OK but the clothes are a bit stiff/scratchy compared to after tumble drying. I've always avoided fabric conditioners (mostly because of allergies and very sensitive skin). I'd appreciate any ideas for alternatives. Best wishes, Sandy
Guest guest
Hi Sandy,We have the same problem too!I had read that adding a small amount of vinegar to final rinse can help to soften the load. I have tried it and I think it does help...a little.I also let clothes very nearly dry then tumble with tumble balls for approx. 5 mins and this helps too.Hope someone else has good ideas to share.Sue xSubject: OT - fabric conditioningTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Date: Tuesday, 14 June, 2011, 0:34 Hi all, I am trying to economise by using the tumble dryer less. Guest guest
Another thing to consider in the long term is getting a high quality washing machine with a fast spin as obviously that reduces drying time, but it won't I suppose make the clothes softer. I liked the sensible idea about nearly drying them indoors then finishing them off in the sryer! Guest guest
Hi all, Thanks very much for your ideas - I'll definitely try vinegar and am trying a short tumble in the tumble dryer. Ironing everything (and a bit more of an iron that my previous light touch) seems to help. Best wishes, Sandy
Guest guest
I just bought (well not bought 12 months free from Argos!!!) a 1600 spin 8kg machine hotpoint - if you leave it on 1600 they are practically dry and only need 20 mins in tumble dryer - it is fantastic!! Marina washing machine with high spin speed means no time at all outside drying, you can get this on most reasonably priced machines now. Tracey, I love scratchy towels, great exfoilator, lol.
