Empowering Parents

to be Equal ARD/IEP Participants

Presenter: Myrna B. Silver,

Attorney at Law

Saturday

– August 14, 2010

2:30 – 4:30

The North Richland Hills Library

9015

Grand Avenue

North

Richland Hills, Texas

The ARD/IEP decision

making process is complex, and often confusing. Parents frequently do not know

what their children’s rights are in terms of the education and services

offered by the schools. Parents are often intimidated by school staff

during Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and as a result are not

able to provide input into their child’s Individualized Education Plan

(IEP) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP). Unless parents are confident

about their role and fully involved in ARD meetings with school staff, their

children’s progress can be hindered. Myrna will answer questions

commonly asked by families and will invite questions from participants.
