Guest guest
That article is abit stretched, you can get rabies vaccinations for under $10 at most vaccine clinics. I have never seen a problem related to the vaccine but have seen a problem with a child being bit by a dog who was not vaccinated... it is a horrible feeling! As I said, it's your choice NOT to vaccinate but don't commit fraud by stating they were! That really pisses me off. That would be like selling raw milk and telling someone it was pasteurized, would you do that? Guest guest
I can understand not vaccinating an animal that never ever goes outdoors but to not vaccinate animals that can contact wild animals I don't get. We just had a fox bite a small girl in north Atlanta this spring. It was trapped and tested positive for rabies. And I beleive I read about a case of a young girl in New England dying of rabies. They finally traced it by her sister's story of a wild deer that approached them that they " played with " . So is this vet saying that animals that eat exactly what they were designed to eat never get rabies??? I find that hard to believe....but I haven't read the book either. I know when I've travelled in 3rd world countries it's a hugh problem as dogs are never vaxed. Of course most are eating garbage but still....... Guest guest
http://my.webmd.com/content/article/90/100527.htm This just happened in July! Rabies is a real threat to humans hence my feeling that the vaccination in dogs is well warranted despite how I feel about vaccines in general. Danni AckermanMighty Oak Farm Nubian Goatshttp://www.mightyoakfarm.comToday's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. I wrote a long reply to this and since I usually try to avoid OT posts I pitched it, but I keep feeling like I should say something. I am a very anti-vax person. Pretty much anti-modern medicine as a means to stay healthy. I am grateful it is there when we need it but do not believe we need to rely on it to stay well. However, if someone were to get bit by a wild OR domestic animal that couldn’t be caught and quarantined and the pet had no rabies shot the owner would be the reason that someone would have to go through the rabies vaccines AND the immune globulin shot. Here in MA the immune globulin is given as individual injections based on weight. I think adults would get 5 plus the first rabies shot. I know for myself I couldn’t live with the fact that I had caused someone or their child to go through this. Most people believe whole-heartedly in vaccines and would go with the CDC/board of health/doctor recommendation for the shots since rabies is almost always (or always) fatal. I know nearly first hand how awful this experience is since my boys had a bat in their room overnight-door closed and after agonizing over the decision we went with the shots. The boys are full of scrapes and bug bites from being outside so much and there was no way to tell if one of those marks was or was not caused by a bat. Most cases of rabies in humans are from bats. I do agree that we over vaccinate ourselves and our pets but in the case of rabies and the mainstream mindset I will get our new pup the rabies vax. I would never want to be the cause of someone else having to go through these shots. My 11yo has been suffering from aching muscles and joints that may take months to subside and who knows what the long term effects can or will be from the shots. It was a lesser of two evils choice that I would hope no one would ever have to make. Guest guest
So anyone know if it's transmitted via raw milk? Sounds like it's nerves only. I'm also wondering in terms of eating raw meats. Guest guest
I checked out the pdf below, what I saw was quite hilarious. People "ate" raw milk? Maybe that's why they got sick? All kidding aside, try going to any one of the links they provide for Source/refs. The ones I tried turned up no page found (since the links don't work directly they must be typed in manually). The most amazing part though, was the very end of the document where it broke down the number of outbreaks and cases. This graph shows in a period of 19 years (1973-1992) there were 1,733 supposed cases of illness related to raw dairy consumption - that's a whole 91 cases a year! I'm attaching a copy of the "Outbreak Report" for the years 1990-2002 (interesting reading if you have the time). On page 22, on the right hand side, you will see a graph for dairy products (apparently processed because it doesn't say otherwise). During this 12 year time span there were 3,385 cases of illness related to dairy products- that's a whopping 282 per year!!! As for the link for http://www.cgfi.org/materials/articles/2002/jul_9_02.htm - we know Tim Wightman personally. He and Gleta are the ones that got us started on this "adventure of a lifetime". All I can say is "hogwash". This was one of the biggest scams to ever happen in the state of Wisconsin. We still have hundreds of pages of emails in our possession that prove what was done to accomplish this mass media wash out. People will believe Anything if they hear it often enough and long enough. I won't get into the vaccination issue here - I'm much too passionate about it. Having many customers that have children dealing with "side effects" of vaccines is enough to break anyone's heart - especially when one of those children is my own granddaughter! Rigid vaccination programs came along too late - after the epidemics were already on the downswing! The facts and figures are there! That's all I'm saying!!!! I'm done ranting now - and out to do my Sunday evening chores. Janet Re: Re: The Big Rabies Scam I know when I've travelled in 3rd world countries it's a hugh problemas dogs are never vaxed. Guest guest
The huge decline in infectious (bacterial and viral) diseases occurred well before the invention of antibiotics and vaccinies. By the time antibiotics and vaccines came out around 90% or more of the decline had already occured, and based on the velocity of the graphs it seems likely that the final decline would have probably occurred without antibiotics and vaccines. The bigger issue is do vaccines really work that effectively in the first place? There is no evidence that they are a panacea. At best they are a mixed blessing. Blaming deaths from infectious disease in third world countries on lack of vaccines just covers up the bigger problems, such as unclean/toxic water and poor nutrition, which take a lot more effort, resources, and shifts of political power to change. I would argue that lack of good food is a more important factor than lack of vaccines (and western medical care) is the etiology of infectious disease in third world countries. The great decline in infectious diseases in industrialized western nations is more strongly correlated with the spread of the railroad than anything else, which suggests that nutrition(access to fresh unprocessed animal and plant foods) was probably the key factor. I'm sure many are aware that there is much evidence showing that vaccines often cause the diseases they are supposed to prevent, or they may create an entirly new disease altogether. The 1918 flu pandemic is highly correlated with mass vaccination programs (nomorefakenews.com). The other thing is that rabies is NOT always fatal in dogs (http://www.canids.org/PUBLICAT/AWDACTPL/appdx1.htm). The immune system has a role in every illness. To tie this into raw dairy I will say that high quality raw dairy (or other raw animal food) may help a carnivore- omnivore animal like a dog or human more than a vaccine in warding off a virus-associated disease. Guest guest
Thank you Janet for sending those additional links for my information library. I also appreciate very much the links to the dangers of pasterized/homogenized milk that you sent a while back. I went to them all, read and printed out all for my sister. I printed so much of it, it turned out to fill a large manila envelope that I mailed to my sister...she doesn't do e-mail..LOL. Anyway, the written word turned the tide and now she will be seeking out RAW milk...get ready , I believe that she will be contacting you for cow share as soon as a friend of hers comes to visit tomorrow..who is already a cow share customer of yours. Won't mention names at this time. My sister thinks though that she would prefer goat share. Thanks again to you Janet and all who share your knowledge so generously. Guest guest
Charlene, In regard to this post: want to read something really scarey.. read this http://www.mass.gov/dph/media/1998/pr1117.htm I'M NOT SCARED! http://www.foodsafetynetwork.ca/food/rawmilkoutbreaksummary.pdf and here's an interesting twist on raw milk http://www.cgfi.org/materials/articles/2002/jul_9_02.htm ....and I'll tell you why. Because as long as the government has control over an industry that is a large aspect of our economic stability and the truth is a detriment to contributing special interest groups, there will always be disinformation and sabotage. Mr. Avery writes that Farmed Salmon is safe despite warnings by the EPA. As he states, if it is not purchased it could have a devastating affect on the industry. His interest is not in global food safety, but rather global food ECOMONIC safety. It is obvious he is not truly interested in the health of the human race. Raw milk is not good for the economy plain and simple. It is a food that is natural. As long as there is no pasteurization and no regulation there is no money in it for the government. Mr. Avery is one writer who's information is solely for the purpose of manipulation. I recommend not posting his garbage on such a classy newsgroup.
