Guest guest
With the salaries of the therapy profession looking more and more grim and in working in a facility who does not offer monetary increases based on job performance but rather provides an " across the board " or " team adjustment " as they call it, has anyone found other methods of rewarding those clinicians and workers who truly do go the extra mile? I am hounded by the staff each year to increase their CEU benefits- I would love to offer CEU $$'s above and beyond what they are allowed to reward/recognize those folks- does anyone do this or something similar and how do you objectively measure this- I certainly do not want to be accused of playing favorites! Guest guest
Hopefully you are evaluating your employees at least annually and getting objective numbers showing which team members have gone " above and beyond " . I would use that tool to decide who deserves something a little extra. There are many ways to reward your employees. 1. Give them the afternoon off ( " off the books " ) 2. Buy textbooks for the " department library " that the therapists want. They can borrow them from the department (someone just needs to keep track of them). 3. Have staff nominate a person in the department monthly who has gone " above and beyond the call of duty " and reward them with lunch, free movie, 1/2 day off, etc. Make sure you set objective criteria so that it is not a popularity contest. 4. Publicly recognize staff accomplishments. If someone received a specialist certification, has developed an area of expertise, etc., post it in the staff room, in your company's newsletter, local paper, or in the waiting room. Make the announcement look professional (computer programs are inexpensive and look great). This is boosts the staff person's morale, brings attention to your department, and encourages other staff to follow in their footsteps. 5. Do you or anyone you know have a summer home they would be willing to give up for a weekend? One private practice owner lends his summer home to 1 or 2 staff people each year that he feels did an outstanding job. There are many ways to reward staff. All you need is some creativity (and a little money).
