My neurosurgeon, who has done a number of TCS surgeries, said that 80% of cords retether, either due to scar tissue or lipoma growth or other causes. However, of those only about 10% become symptomatic...that is, the symptoms worsen with the retethering. I am one of the lucky 10% (~G~) so I am scheduled for my second surgery June 28th. This is the 3rd date I've been given though so I hope I finally get it done. If your symptoms don't worsen with the retethering I guess you don't need to have the surgery done. Of course, most of us don't find out about a retethered cord unless we DO start to show additional symptoms and so get very expensive tests done!
