And I also think that your diagnosis of the froglike lump on the right is indeed accurate. I don't always have them, but often, and I'm glad that even though they look gross, they are in no way malignant ;-) In fact, I've noticed, that the really ooglified brews are also the most delicious ones..... anyone else has had that kind of experience? Yep! I don't know if these lumps are to blame, but my best brews have had them... Sander The Netherlands
Guest guest
I can't seem to get it open. Can you post the picture? Skye sndrzwgrs wrote: Hi everyone! Yesterday I started another big batch in my 30 litre vessel. Today it looks like this http://home.hetnet.nl/~s.zwegers/komboecha.jpg The thing on the left is a SCOBY. The thing on the right...well I don't know. It's about 4 inches in diameter and it looks kind of gross. I've seen similar things in all of my big batches, so I don't worry. Does anybody know what this actually is? To me it seems like a cluster of tea parts and some kind of yeast. --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. Guest guest
When you say big vessel are you using a five gallon bucket, and if so, I'm assuming what is true is that the fermenting process doesn't break down the plastic. V V, it's almost 8 gallons (30 litres) and made of foodgrade HDPE (recycle code 2). This kind of plastic is supposed to be safe for making kombucha. Guest guest
Eek! That's kinda scary! Will your SCOBY eventually cover the whole surface of the vessel? Beth, if all goes as expected, a new scoby, covering the whole surface, will form in a few days... Sander
