Guest guest
Hi, Lori, One thing I'm wondering about is whether to put a 504 plan in place for college, and what kind of accomodations, if any, would be appropriate. She is off all meds and nearly symptom free right now, and has been for a year, even in the face of significant stressors (gymnastics injury, boyfriend in boot camp, strep and viral infections). She has a 504 at school, but hasn't used accomodations in a couple of years. She won't turn 18 till next Feb, so I can be involved to more of an extent in the decision making for this than most college moms. My son with NVLD had a 504 in college (He didn't use it much, but he should have!) I haven't talked to her about it, but my suspicion is that she doesn't think she needs anything right now, and won't want to have a plan. The POTAYA site is very quiet, but it would be great to get it going a bit. Kids actually change a lot more in adolescence than they do from toddlerhood to age 12 (just my opinion!) and there are definitely special issues! Why don't you register and come on over there? Maybe we can drum up some action on that site. > >
Guest guest
Congratulations to Kati and to you! And to the other parents of college-bound kids. My son will be applying to colleges next year and after this last year of OCD I can't imagine him going away to college and being able to function. Very nerve-wracking! I will definitely encourage him to go somewhere close to home. So hearing your good news is very heartening. Thanks for sharing! Guest guest
, I think a 504 plan for college is probably a good idea even if they dont use it. Kaitlin has had an IEP for years now, Some years she hardly needs it, however when things are bad like lately, its in place to fall back on. When things calm down around here I'll check out the other sight. Lori
