I've come across this term many times in Swedish. It does not mean 'excessive

mortality', but 'excess mortality', as has been suggested, i.e. the number of

deaths in excess of what would normally be expected in the population

concerned.

Hi Rob,

Just a thought. Wouldn't a " blanding " of the two be closer, i.e. simply

" increased mortalitity " ?

Well, personally I reckon that the hits for 'excess mortality' are a pretty

good match for 'överdödlighet'.
