Hi Tishanne,

They are really a huge pain in the #%* aren't they. Have you gotten a letter from the Dr. explaining these needs and giving a medical excuse for them. It shouldn't matter what the school has on its list if the Dr. says it is necessary and puts it in writing. They cannot dictate your childrens medical needs based on any list. If they do persue this as truancy you should get a letter for sure so you have documentation of the medical issues and the specific needs of your children. I had severe migrains when I was in high school and they could last a day and come back for the next few (our wonderful hormones at work). My Dr. wrote a blanket excuse note that covered me for a day out as well as for leaving if in pain or if I felt a migraine coming on. I got a few dirty looks from the school staff and office workers but they had to excuse me ( I will admit to occasionally taking advantage of the

situation. I mean come on I was 16.). I hope this works out for you and someday the school is put in its place. They are there to support and help families educate their children not hound them and make unfounded allegations agains them. Kellie

Hi everyone,I just spoke with the school in regards to excusing my childrens absent days. The school told me my childrens missed, tardy days will not be excused and I am violating truancy laws. They said spectrum, autism or neuro problems does not cover an excused absence or tardy. They are going to serve more court papers on me. My children do not skip school. I allow them to stay home or be tardy if they are having headache, migraine, nausea, sensory overload or hyper irritation, mood swings. The school said they had a meeting with the principle and staff and they will not allow theese reasons to be excused days. They tell me autism, pdd, spectrum health, neuro, seizure related problems are not on the excused absence list. Now what should I do? Our neurologist and other Dr.s recommended I give them needed breaks through out the school/home day or as needed. The school will not go by the neurologist or Dr.

recommendation and tells me I am breaking the law.I am really stressed out over all of the school problems. What can I do or what should I do? I feel very trapped,in a corner. If the Dr.s do not have a say that matters to the school what can I do or say?Stressing out,Tishanne

Oh Tishanne I feel so bad for you! This sounds like plain craziness to me! It

really does! Come on now! I don't get that! They are being very unreasonable

and unwilling to work with you and that is so unfair!

Tishanne...did you sign them out of school when you began to home-school? They must be discharged from the school, or you will have issues with them...when we decided on private K for Lily, I had to go through a formal process of withdrawing, signing this that etc..I would have done the same if I had taken her out to home-school.

You know everything so I'm sure you already know this LOL...

Hugs to you!!!!

Hi e,it is confusing! I did homeschool in the past. After 1-3

years depending on my childs skills, developement, teacher and wich

child,lol I put

them back into public school. All of my children were enrolled to

start this

school year in public school. I filed my intent to homeschool

Artanian after his hospital stay. He did not attend any days this

year in public ed. My 10yr daughter did go the first week and I filed

intent to homeschool her. She is homeschooled and still participates

in school sports programs. My older son and daughter are in senior

high, public school. They are having problems this year. I have court

for my younger children tomorrow. The school is asking for them to

attend public school and rejecting my intent to homeschool. My older

senior high students are having problems as well. I was told today I

will be taken to court for my excused absences or tardies. The old

school staff had been very good with my kids. This years new staff at

school is not allowing my kids autism, health related absence or

tardies because they are not on the excusable list. Now I may

homeschool my high school children because they are stressed out

about the new rules and staff. They are asking me to please

homeschool them agin.

Best wishes,

Tishanne

Hi ,I did have medical facts, file shared with the school. They

used to consider all the info. I think what they are telling me is

the requirements for health needed absence, tardy has changed. I would

rather get along and work this out then go to court. All the changes

are making it hard on the kids. Thank you for your understanding. I

am wishing for the best outcome!

Hi , Thank you for the info.I did file under the " no child left

behind " a civil complaint and won. It did not change anything for my

children in school and the downside is my civil rights worker told me

there would be retaliation against me. I think that is going on now.

That should be against the law too. I will look up ADA.

Best wishes,

Tishanne

child left behind - if they're not going to follow the IEP...throw

those at them. Go to the state agencies listed in your child's IEP

and see what they can do. School districts (at least here) are

pretty useless.
