Guest guest
I'm hoping someone can help me here. I have some kefir grains that have been in a mason jar in filtered water for about 2 months. Is there anyway to know if they have lost their culturing power? Thanks~
Guest guest
Terry- Thanks for the information. I'm glad to know that they can probably be revived.
Guest guest
It depends on what you have been doing to sustain them in the meantime. Have you fed them? Guest guest
Hi Blane. I haven't fed them at all since I immersed them in filtered water a couple of months ago.
Guest guest
The only way I would think to be able to tell if they still are alive and will culture,....is to give it a try. Put them in some milk and let it sit out in a warm place (outside even--covered) for 24 hours. If you get kefir, then they are still alive...if it's still runny milk after 24 hours....they died. Guest guest
Then watch them carefully as you try to begin brewing again. It's possible that they will not respond...
