Guest guest
, The stuff you mention (better heart rates, higher oxyben saturation, etc.) are certainly part of a Meier's research. Search for yer work on Medscape. Good luck ! Ghislaine Reid, IBCLC article on breast vs. bottle I **KNOW** I've seen this article, and now I need it and can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about and any clues about where to find it. The article cites studies that show babies have better heart rates, higher oxygen saturation rates, lower stress levels at the breast as opposed to when fed via bottle. Wolf & Glass perhaps. Please help. Thanks, Warmly, Dawn , CD (DONA), IBCLC, RLCAustin, TX

Guest guest
I attended a conference with a Meier in 1993 and in my files I had a list of references she gave us. Here are some of the articles that might be of interest to you : Meier, P.P. (1988) Bottle and breast feeding : Effects on transcutaneous oxygen pressure and temperature in preterm infants. Nursing Research, 37, 36-41. Meier, P.P. & , G.C. (1987) Responses of preterm infants to bottle and breast feeding. MCN : American Journal of Maternal-Child Nursing, 12, 420-423. If you don't have access to a medical library, the CBI (Center for Breastfeeding Information) http://www.lalecheleague.org/cbi/cbi.html of LLLI has these articles. You can order the articles through the CBI. You can access the CBI database on line and query it for research and papers they have on file. Good luck ! Guest guest
Thanks and Ghislaine. Upon further search in the BAB I also found these references from page 282: "Many studies conducted since then have also concluded that bottle-feeding causes oxygen desaturation and that a premie's oxygen saturation levels remain higher when breastfeeding (Dowling 1999; Blaymore Bier 1997; Poets 1997; Blaymore Bier 1996; Meier and Brown 1996). Just wondering if anyone regularly finds complete (not reviews or abstracts) journal articles on-line to read? What service do you use? How expensive is it? I'm finding I often want to send someone (either client or Health Care Provider) a copy of an article, but I don't seem to have good luck locating them easily. Any suggestions, esp. from a BTDT perspective. Warmly, Dawn , CD (DONA), IBCLC, RLCAustin, TX

Guest guest
I'm not sure, but I would think anyone can access the CBI Database as it simply pulls out the titles, authors and publication data of the articles that are on file with the CBI. Afterwards, if you wish, you can order a research through the CBI. You do need to logon to the CBI and get a password. There are no abstracts. You'll have to try and see if you can query the database if you are note a LLL leader. Guest guest
I checked the CBI page this morning and anyone can access the database. You do, however, need to register to get a password.
