Guest guest
Hi all- I'm new to this list. My seven year old daughter has just recently been tentatively diagnosed with OCD by her pediatrician, and is waiting (a month!) to get in to see someone at the UIC anxiety clinic. In the meanwhile, she was prescribed Zoloft by her pediatrician in the hopes of making things a little better for her while we were waiting. She's been taking it for 4 days now, and it has had some unwelcome side effects. The two that concern me are sleeplessness (which we're hoping to abate by giving her the dose in the morning as opposed to the evening), and not-quite- making-it to the bathroom when she gets up at night. She ends up crying & wet a few steps from the toilet. Two nights in a row this has happenned to her now, and I have to assume it's the medication since this hasn't happenned before now in a couple of years. I also have a call into her pediatrician about this, but I was just wondering if anyone went through similar side effects with their children, and whether they abated with time or whether they ultimately changed meds as a result. Thanks for your time. I look forward to reading this group more.
Guest guest
Hi, welcome! I have a 14.5 yr old son with OCD. Sorry, we haven't tried Zoloft, we're still in the beginning stages of taking Celexa (well, it's been about 8 weeks). Side effects can ease up after the first week or so, from what I've read (here and elsewhere). See what your doctor says. People act so individually to medication, even if it doesn't fall into the typical side effects category. What OCD behaviors is she having? My son has had such a variety of behaviors over the years (he's now in 9th, we began this journey in 6th grade); but he says it is all to keep something bad from happening to him and he has to get a " just right " feeling. Celexa is the first prescribed medication we've tried. (hmmmm...note I say " we " alot instead of " he. " you can see how involved I am!) - single mom, 3 sons - > Hi all- > > I'm new to this list. Guest guest
Hi, my daughter has been on zoloft from age 9 to the present (15) and is on150 mg daily, though it has been as high as 200 mg daily. She had a few night time wetting accidents in the beginning, but none in several years. Zoloft seems to make her sleepy instead of sleepless.
