Guest guest
Hi Tequisha, you may want a ear, nose throat or ENT exam and a audiologist exam for your son. My daughter had vocal/sounding like what you are describing. Those specialists found a couple of medical reasons for us. Sometimes it is a form of voal stimming. You are doing wonderful parent observations. Be sure to share this with your sons Dr. Best wishes, Tishanne -- In AutismBehaviorProblems , Tequisha Washington wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All, > > I have a two year old, wonderful little boy named . Guest guest
Hi Tishanne! Thank you for the reply. I looked on the web and thought that it sounded like stimming as well, but I wasn't for sure. I will definetly make an appt for an exam. Guest guest
Hello sweet lady. I'm so glad you posted. Tequisha, it sounds like you have your hands full. The noise sounds to me like a visual stim, the head banging is obviously an issue...has anyone recommended a helmet for him...look on www.abilitaions.com They have some, both hard and soft. A good one to talk to regarding the helmet is your OT...She can will and probably already has recommended some sort of a sensory "diet" for him....if she has not please get her to do so, as this helps mine to feel regulated, grounded, and because of it I see less stimming. My child bites his hand really, really, hard. We do not call attention to it verbally as this can cause other problems. I will email you later as well.................. I have more tidbits.....talk soon. Welcome, welcome, e Subject: My Two Year old son-Please Help! Guest guest
Hi Tishanne, was 6lbs 4oz's, and no problem on the head phone info. It was my pleasure. I truly hate going places, but I already know how it is going to be. I stress the night before also, hoping that this time will be much different from the last. How long did she have to wear her helmet? I am so scared of going anywhere. We are going to the Cider Mill on Sunday, and i want my older son to enjoy himself, and the other people around as well, but I want to take him, in hopes once again, he has a single moment of fun. Guest guest
Hi, again tequisha! I remember at the beginning of my grieving..., a lady on-line said to me that my daughter will be a better person for having a brother like . She is...it has taken a lot of explaining, and a lot of books on the topic, but it is a wonderful thing to watch the heart of a child of 5 change...she is more tender now, she is more understanding...and while it is sooooooooooooooooooooo hard and the days suck (pardon my french) sometimes...it does get better. He needs some ABA...are you looking into that? I know it is expensive, but it is worth every Penney. Please keep sharing on this site. We are here for you! I still need to send you a private email, to give more details...I have a couple of websites to and book ideas for your older one!!!! As soon as I can get it done I WILL Take wonderful care, and have a blessed day!!! e Re: My Two Year old son-Please Help! New to GroupTo: AutismBehaviorProbl emsyahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 5:38 PM Hi Tequisha, what kind of head phones do you have? I am looking for good kid proof head phones for my son. Do you have him wear them for music input or silence?. My son gets upset if anyone interacts with him or comes to close. Sometimes he gets very mad and he bit me so hard when he was upset and I tried to keep him safe and stop his self abuse. Now I let him bite a roll of blanket while I restrain him. My son also looks down, away or rolls his eyes so you see the whites instead of returning eye contact. When he was on medication he made eye contact some. Now he is off meds and no eye contact. Its so hard to help when they just like to be alone. I really understand.Best wishes,Tishanne> >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All,> > > > I have a two year old, wonderful little boy named . Guest guest
Hi, sweet lady...I just read this...another site to look at is South Paw Enterprises...sometimes they have better prices...Let people look. You have a child with a disability, and you have a right to be any and all places. Obviously, yes, we do want to be polite, but it's important that you learn to tell people NOT to talk to him...I've had to do this in the grocery store, "do not say hi because he will get upset" It's OK. You are the hoover dam between this world and your child...you are his only protector. You are equipped to do this. I promise.... Also look at AutismCards.com They are really nice to have, just in case...it's so hard Tequisha...I know it is. Please know that I will get back to you soon, as I do have some other things to add. e My Two Year old son-Please Help! Guest guest
Hi Tequisha, one of my children was 6lb 4oz,lol. My daughter wore her helmet a few months. I was so worried as her head kept changing shape. The cider mill sounds like fun. You have such a good attitude about having a fun time, trying something new it's sure to be a good experience for your family inspite of the travel, activity stress. I understand how you feel about being scared to go anywhere. I get scared too. Sometimes I have that gut feeling things will be difficult and I think why did I even try this. Other times I am surprised and relieved there was success. Guest guest
Hi! Tishannne, Wow! that is a coincidence. 's head is still mis-shappened some but they said as he grows hopefully it will get better, but it did improve it greatly. We tried the Cider Mill last yr, and it was a disaster, but gonna give it another shot. My oldest really liked it. I say that alot, if only I listened to my first mind, I could be at home in peace. After we leave places, I get in the car and just say Whew! we made it. Tequisha> > > > From: Tequisha Washington <tequisha_w@ yahoo. com>> > Subject: My Two Year old son-Please Help! Guest guest
Good to hear about ...as it seems that this has already had a positive effect on him. Also, I have to remind myself that Lily does not have to be perfect to compensate for ....I find that I'm so tired that I don't want her to have a bad day, as then what will I do with two kiddos having bad days. I have learned over time that she must be allowed to melt down too, and that even though her crying makes ballistic (and I mean ballistic with screaming, biting his hand, and crying)...she is allowed. This one is hard for me...but I know it is so important to let the other BE just as if you didn't have one with special needs...this may or may not apply to you, but It really has been a good lesson for me. A good book is Siblings of children with Autism (google it...I think that's the name..it helped me a lot). More later... J Re: My Two Year old son-Please Help! Guest guest
We all understand that too...Well at least I know that many of us feel that way....Autism is very isolating because it manifests itself in behavioral challenges...something we as mommies, and the general public place so much importance on...that is why the cards are nice.... Guest guest
Sounds like my son at that age but our doctors said that he would just grow out of it. No speech no occupational therapy no nothing. His fixations where books he would sit in a corner and spend hours looking at books. If he was not looking at books he would scream and hit is head until we put in a baby einstein movie and he would sit and rock and chew on his bear. He did not start talking until three. He was finally diagnosed with autism at 4. I some how lucked out and got a new doctor when I went in for a well baby check my son freaked out at getting his blood pressure and would not go into an exam room 7 because he hates the number 7. The Doctor grabbed his chart looked at it and said has anyone every told you about autism. Come to find out the doctor's son is autistic and she knew the minute was getting his blood pressure checked. He was already in an intervention preschool. We started outside occutpational therapy and counseling to help him handle some anger issues. We also started the gluten free caisen free diet which is difficult but has made some great improvements in his behavior and speech. If your son craves bread and milk I would consider looking into it. Since he is so young I would go cold turkey and expect a week of Hell but it will get better I promise. is now 5 and in a normal classroom with a one on one aid. When I read stories like yours it makes me see how far we have come with him.> > > > From: Tequisha Washington <tequisha_w@ yahoo. com>> > Subject: My Two Year old son-Please Help!
