Guest guest
Magnesium & B6 are really effective in preventing seizures. My son developed seizures only when on a nasal spray to stop bed wetting. It reduced his sodium and had a cascading effect on his whole system. If you read about magnesium and B6 you'll see that deficiencies can result in seizures and muscle twitching etc. Lots of information is available on people with autism having a greater need for these 2 substances eg Jaclyn McCandless and " Children with starving brains " - as a result of gut problems etc. Can't hurt to give this a try! All the best > > My 6 year old son had a grand mal seizure a few days ago and he has never had one and it was really scary. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with seizures and how are you treating them. My son is scheduled to see his pediatrician next Thursday so we can get a EEG scheduled but I am so scared that he is having small seizures and I just can't tell. > > TIA, > > > > --------------------------------- > Relax. Guest guest
Any suggestions on what kind of mag and b6 to give? What are the dosing reccommendations? There are so many to choose out there. Guest guest
Hi , I don't have a lot of experience with seizures (my son had mini-seizures that resolved with diete and Valtrex but your child's seem much more significant) so I'm not a good resource. I'm sorry about that. Maybe someone in the group will offer you some suggestions. - Stan > > My 6 year old son had a grand mal seizure a few days ago and he has never had one and it was really scary. Guest guest
Now tics is another story. I have some experience with that. Magnesium up to bowel tolerance and Krill Oil (6 to 10 caps per day) and Cod Liver Oil is said to be very effective for tics. B6 and taurine are probably good to try as well. - Stan > > > > My 6 year old son had a grand mal seizure a few days ago and he has > never had one and it was really scary. Guest guest
Have a look at http://www.autismwebsite.com/ari/treatment/treatment.htm We have used mag citrate but now use a powder called Ultra Muscleze - pleasnt tasting -(Bioceuticals in Autralia: www.bioceuticals.com.au - probably has a US outlet)which is a product containing magnesium and lots of other nutrients helpful for autism. Jaclym McCandless - " Children with starving brains " suggests magnesium in the glycinate form is the most absorbable). I'm certainly no expert but IMO even neurologists have very limited knowledge about the metabolism and biochemistry of autism. Our neurologist wanted to put our son on drugs but we didn't. We did the EEG too but it didn't show anything. Since being vigilant with magnesium and B6 we haven't seen a seizure or signs of one for well over a year. Guest guest
For another perspective; neither magnesium[any form] or B6 in what would be considered elevated doses was at all effective in stemming the tide of seizures that began for our daughter at age 9. She is a responder to gfcfsf eating pattern. As long as her diet stays pure, she is seizure free. After long hauls of tests/evaluations, trials of seizure meds and ketogenic diet etc, I was very thankful to find this intervention. > > > > > > My 6 year old son had a grand mal seizure a few days ago and > he has > > never had one and it was really scary.
