I personally do not have a child with MDS, but my sister does. She just had her baby this past Monday and he was diagnosed with MDS. His name is Hayden. His diagnosis was a bit of a shocker for everyone in my family. He is currently in the hospital under blue lights because he is jaundiced. THe good news is that his heart is super and he will not need an operation, and he went off his IV and oxygen a few days ago. I wanted to find out as much information as possible on MDS so I and the rest of 's family could try and understand what exactly the syndrome is and how other families dealt with it. I know my sister and her husband are still very emotional and are not quite ready to join something like this group. Maybe in a few weeks though. I realize that this web mailing list is made only for parents with children that have MDS. I was hoping that by joining I, as 's Aunt, would be better informed about his syndrome and therefore be a better support unit for him, his big sister (three years old), and his mommy and daddy. I guess I am looking for some advice on how to be supportive. As I said, this all came as quite a surprise and has been a pretty emotional week for the whole family. Things are starting to settle down now and most of us have gotten over the initial shock. really is a sweetie pie. He has red hair and big blue eyes, like his daddy and two aunts. He is such a little peanut. We all just want him to come home so we all can hold him. He should be home in a few days, hopefully. Another positive thing is that my sister was able to breast feed him yesterday, which is supposedly unusual for babies with DS. Anyway, I hope to hear from someone with any information they may have that could be helpful for me to share with the rest of my family. has a very supportive and loving family and we all just want the best for her, Jim (daddy), and the baby. Thanks! Sincerely, Mebruer (a new Aunt) __________________________________________________
