I understand many people have used Concerta and ritalin and been pleased.

When my child was first put on these she did wonderful. Unfortunately as

time went by she started having depressive problems, followed by an

antidepressant which further resulted in rages followed by more drugs. She

was very sick. For the last year she has been on NONE of these things and

getting better and better on supplements and chelation. If you decide to

used the stimulant medicines just be very careful and watch your child very

closely. You can also look up works (books and internet site) by Dr.

Breggins. When I discovered and read his work I realized this is EXACTLY

what my child had gone through!

Just research very carefully.

I have never used Concerta for my son, but it is a timed-release type

of Ritalin, so far as I understand it. If you are considering it

because of ADD/ADHD issues, you might want to consider phenols first.

Addressing phenols helps quite a few kids with those issues

My child is on spectrum - never dx'd autistic. Was dx'd ADHD/CAPD in 6th

grade after hepb & MMR booster. When I finally agreed to put my child on

concerta she was 14. At first she seemed to do very well. This lasted for

about 4 months. Then she started downhill. The doctors then decided she

needed an antidepressant with the stimulants. This made the rages and mood

swings worse. At that point the great p docs decided she was bipolar and

added lithium. After another 3 months she was so sick they decided she

needed an antipsychotic. It was then that I realized what was really wrong

with my child and how to really stand a chance of helping her and took her

off all this junk. I suggest you look at Breggins internet sites or

read some of his books. Also ritalindeaths on the internet. It was after

going thru pure hell for two years and taking my child off all meds I

discovered his work and it could have been written about what she went

through.

By the way, she is now doing great being treated for mercury and virus and NO

psycho-drugs.

The best of luck to you,

Michele

My son is completely verbal, so he was able to tell me something right off

the bat. It made him weepy almost immediately. The hallucinations came

later. He saw bees in a bag of chips and water under the kitchen table. He

swore his food had bugs on it. Every kid reacts different, so your child

might not have these side affects.

Amen to that! We tried Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, Seroquel and Celexa.

The only one that didn't cause horrible side affects was the Celexa. The

only thing the Celexa helped was the OCD symptoms. We are now weaning my

son off of the Celexa, because I don't want to medicate him, period......

  • 3 years later...

Just a quick note. I am a pharmacy technician to clarify questions on

Concerta. It is a stimulant and must be regulated by the FDA. Every

Prescription that is dispensed from a pharmacy must be kept track of. No it

is not a narcotic but it's side affects are just as serious. I am not

anti-drug or anything like that but believe Concerta is not a drug to give

children unless it is truly needed. My son as a matter of fact may have to

be put on it but we have been trying all other alternatives prior to it's

use for the last three years. Many children are put on it needlessly I have

seen it many times. I understand some children need it and for those it's

fine. I just think research into other alternatives should be tried first. I

have learned not to take a doctor's opinion as Gold and research everything

very through. I don't mean to offend anyone by this post, please know I just

think it is important we share correct information with each other.

Thanks,

Ann

Re: ( ) to Crystal re Concerta
