If you are having trouble emptying and getting infections and the like, you do need to self-cath. I don't empty well all the time, but generally am a leaker. My uro advised self-cathing or I would get infections =- But I don't. So I rarely cath, only when my back is really acting up and peeing is hard. Did you ever email Kathy?
