Guest guest
Apparently this virus is so serious that the Parliament in UK has already had to close down due to the disruption caused. The virus isn't particualry damaging to regular files but it attacks jpegs and music files very destructively. A photo museum has already lost thousands of it's photos on file - so don't forget to warn your friends about this vile little joker. Leaner. Guest guest
Hello everyone, I'm delighted to say I seem to have rid myself of that nasty virus at last! Where ocd list mails were concerned, it took the private mail addresses and sent them on, with attachments (all different, but seemingly benign, such as " fun.pif " ). I think I may have got infected initially from the first attachment arriving with an ocd list mail. I was very naive ....no longer!! And now have my anti virus software up and running. I will take Joni's advice and look at an alternative to Outlook...... Thanks for your patience and for not blacklisting me!! Alice Virus Alert (again) Hey everyone, Someone named " dfarley1@... (d) " is sending me email from OCDandParenting with ATTACHMENTS. I have NOT downloaded the attachments as the email is coming to me PRIVATELY. The mail has copied in previous posts with no message other than " Take a look at the attachment. " No thanks. Just thought I'd warn everyone that apparently someone has hacked into the OCD list and is emailing people privately with an assumed virus attached. Joni P.S. Sorry about that first blank post. I hit the 'enter' key accidently. PSS Louis-- would you like me to forward this email to you? You may subscribe to the OCD-L by emailing listserv@... . Guest guest
Ok..a little slow on the uptake here. I got the emails with the virus attached but didnt open them because my virus scan picked it up. I sort of yelled privately at whoever sent it to me. If it was one of you innocent folks sorry....if it wasn't an innocent person and you are reading this....then pi** off! Would a pdoc call that hostile? Guest guest
Sorry even more info on this dreadful virus. Further to an email I received saying that anti-virus progs van deal with this one - I was sent this excerpt from the BBC site. Some more info on the virus. -----Original Message----- From: Hart [mailto:james@...] Sent: 05 December 2001 08:55 Entire Office; Chesham Subject: VIRUS - READ BELOW.... Importance: High Extract fron BBC website below explaining what the virus looks like and what it does. Pay attention especially to the words in bold. If you receive this, and it is likely, then please delete it as soon as you see it. A powerful new computer virus is causing havoc with e-mail systems across the world. Experts said the virus, called Goner, is spreading fast and are warning computer users to immediately delete it. It was first detected on Tuesday morning in the US but experts believe it was created in Europe. The US, the UK and France are the worst hit of the 17 countries affected so far. Rogue e-mail Goner can even disable anti-virus software in a computer. The rogue e-mail is simply named 'hi' and arrives with an attachment - apparently a screensaver - called Gone.scr. The message reads: " How are you? " When I saw this screensaver I immediately thought of you. " I'm in a harry (sic). I promise you'll love it. " Once the user clicks on the attachment, the " worm " sends itself to everyone in the user's e-mail address book, tries to close programs that are running and deletes certain system files. Shipp, of anti-virus service MessageLabs, based in Gloucestershire, said: " It's spreading with tremendous speed and thousands of users in Britain have already been sent it. " The virus mass mails itself out through e-mail and attempts to destroy anti-virus software on computers, which could prove extremely problematic for those unfortunate enough to receive it.
