I have had 2 physiatrists.. my first one moved away. I was going to leave him anyways b/c of over 1 hr waits in the waiting rm and the following reason: I never asked up front if he had any experience with SB or TCS either. I was having a huge problem finding one that my insurance would cover that wasnt 2 hrs away... so i got my 2nd opinion neurosurg to refer me to one, and this guy was it. well, come to find out, all he deals w/are herniated discs, workers comp, injuries, MVAs, blah, blah, blah. He had never seen a SB patient let alone anyone with TCS or diastematomyelia! he had not a clue what to do with me. so he treated me like his other patients. we got nowhere. ultimately, he said, "you have chronic pain. chronic pain is like high blood pressure. what do you do for high blood pressure? you take pills to control it. here is some oxycontin. if this doesnt do it, we can always go up... cancer patients take up to 160 mg.. dont worry about overdosing... have a nice day..." so i had gone back to see him to say i really didnt like just masking the symptoms i kinda wanted to fix the problem if at all possible, and that i cant take narcotic pain meds while i work...

and was there anything else he could do (next stop is another surgery)...

after waiting 1 1/2 hrs, i had to leave to take my final exam... so i changed docs, seeing as he was moving out of state.

the bottom line, short story, without my babbling, make sure your doc has SB/TCS experinece or it is likely to be a waste of your time. Not to mention, he could hurt you more. this guy did facet joint injections which made me worse for over 3 weeks!

just my 2 cents. use caution with someone w/o experience.

Hi Amy,

My appt. is with a physiatrist, and is Aug. 31. I didn't ask up front whether he has TSC experience, because I was just desperate for an appt. due to issues at work.
