a little ranting

Okay, group. Maybe I'm the new kid on the block, and perhaps I am

naïve to think that professionals should act just as

that...professionals, but I've read the posts from the last couple of

days and I've had these thoughts:

In my short tenure of working in the environmental consulting

industry (4 years to be exact), I have come across plenty of

companies who are willing to screw their clients in order to make a

buck. There are PhD's out there who, although I'm sure they know

better, are willing to make recommendations that are not needed, just

to get more work and more money out of their clients. Now that I'm

getting into the IAQ sector of the market, I'm faced with plenty of

new challenges just in learning the different perspectives and

guidelines out there. But the sad realization that I have come to is

that some people out there are willing to do whatever it takes to

make their financial statements look good at the detriment to those

they're supposed to be helping.

We speak of " conflict of interest " when remediation companies perform

their own post-remediation testing, and I agree that it would be easy

for them to claim the numbers weren't good enough so they had to do

more remediation (and of course BILL IT). But unless the industry

really does something to educate the population and stop the

brainwashing effect the media has, how are Mr. and Mrs.

Homeowner supposed to know their health and pocketbooks are at risk?

Because, when it really comes down to it, it's the industry that has

to stress the importance of balancing the science, economics, and

moral obligation of IAQ.

Forgive me for ranting a bit, but if people with good and honest

intentions say and do nothing, then those with nothing but monetary

objectives will take over.

P.S. Does anyone know what the latest regulations are for Arizona

mold inspections? I heard somewhere that they are being required for

all property transactions, but I have not been able to find the info.
