The two go hand in hand. I've found that I can increase the number of steps I take each day by doing simple things like park farther away from the door, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and pace in circles when on the phone. Be inventive! I bet you can think of hundreds of ways to get more movement into your life. Good luck, Vern
Guest guest
Hello to all, I thought now would be a good time to introduce myself. I joined about a month or two ago, looking for some answers for me and my daughter. She is 13, and we both suffer from 4S (I am 40). I remember being affected by it when I was about 11-12 years old. My friend at the time and my father bothered me most - sniffling and eating noises. Gum snapping has always bothered me, and in the past few years, my husband's breathing (he breathes loudly I think because he has gained weight and can't help it). My 13 year old and I have VERY similar personalities (sensitive, type " A, " good students, introverted) and even look a lot alike. My other daughter, who is 8, is much more laid back and extroverted and so far doesn't have 4S. My 13 year old is mostly bothered by base sounds (hates the noise of my husband's stereo/TV system in the basement), clicking sounds (i.e. my 8 year old playing gameboy), and crunching, gum snapping. It is a nightmare for us to take road trips. My younger daughter can't play gameboy or listen to her ipod (it " clicks " when you change songs), and I get agitated by my husband's breathing. It is really awful. I took an anti-anxiety medicine a few years ago but my husband was deployed for part of that so I can't honestly remember if it helped or not. I cope pretty well normally - have somehow learned to tune some of the sounds out, so I can go to a movie and make it through the crunching (altho I try to sit away from anyone who is really mauling their popcorn), etc... so for me right now the main noise issue I have is my husband's breathing. I notice it most when it is quiet (i.e. at a movie, in church, at dinner when it's quiet, in the car). I just thought I would share because I think it is interesting that my daughter and I both have it. It is truly a curse, and I wish there was a cure, altho' I don't hold out any hopes for it. I feel so bad for my daughter knowing what she is going to have to endure. I am interested in learning more if medications help anyone (altho' it sounds like they don't much, and to be honest I don't want to medicate her or me), hypnotherapy, and I was even thinking to try to get us both into yoga or meditation - I figure that might somehow help train our brains away from the noise?
