Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a basic multi-vitamin that is free of red dye (or

better yet free of ALL DYES). As you all know too well, Flintstones are

pretty expensive when you have to throw away 1/3 (or more) of the bottle.

Lori at Dr. G's looked through her books and could not find ONE name brand

basic multi that is free of red dye. She told us that if we could find one

at a health food type store that we could send the ingredients and have Dr.

G take a look at them.

Any ideas? I'd be glad to order them if that was the only way to get them.

spectrum biogenics

Thanks Barb...

Whew! What a fast reply!

I'll check into those.. our little guy is only ten so I'm not sure if he's

big enough yet for the adult size... maybe we could split them, though.

We use a basic, generic multivitamin. I buy it everywhere. It

looks just like One-A-Day vitamins used to look....little red pills.

It has a red coating all over it that I wash off, put 1/2 in a gel

cap, and that's it. It contains yellow dye, but Dr G told me he was

not concerned about the yellow dye.

Schiff makes one called Children's Chewable Daily Wellness with no added

sugar, salt, yeast, gluten, milk, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors.

You can get it at the Vitamin Shoppe. My son takes them with no problems.

Hi all!

I am new to the list. I have never posted but I have been reading for a

while all your great advice. I am the mother of a 5 year old boy who is on

the waiting list to see Dr. G.

The Whole Foods Market store carries a brand of multivitamins for children

called " Sea Buddies. " They are free of artificial colorings and

preservatives, yeast, gluten, dairies, soy, etc. My son likes them because

they have little sea animals on them (sharks, star fish, etc.). We also use

the Trader's Joe's multivitamin gummy bears. They are also free of

artificial colorings and preservatives.

So glad to meet you!!! I hope you get in to see Dr. G soon, he is wonderful, and

I can't say enough good things about him and his practice. Are you in the LA

area?? Anyway, good luck.

Joie,

Thank you for your warm welcome. No, I am not in the LA area. We live in

Massachusetts. I have not found any doctor here who has heard of Dr. G. or

knows his protocol. We are currently seeing a DAN practitioner and are

starting the CFGF diet and vitamin supplements. Interestingly enough my

son's blood work showed taht he has an active herpes simplex infection even

if he shows no signs of it. Neither his pediatrician or his doctor know what

to make of it. I follow the discussion on the list and the advice that you

all share very closely because it is the only way for me to know whether we

are on the right track or not. Thanks for your help.

We started with Dr. G a few months ago and the first thing he wanted us to

do was to stop the supplements, so this is just a heads up to you! We see

a DAN dr. who helps us navigate the supplements and we were seeing nice

results from the GFCF diet, vitamins and supplements. We just bit the

bullet and stopped all supps except those prescribed by Dr G. So far so

good. Maybe if you tell the office that your son has an active herpes

virus evidenced by blood work he may be able to see you sooner. It's worth

a try. There is a clinic in New York, so that may be a place to look also.

Good luck to you and your son!

Odd thing regarding multi-vitamins ....

Regardless of whether my multi-vitamin is under, or above, the B6 limit,

multi-vitamins ALWAYS make me feel absolutely crappy.

Hello all. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm this is interesting. I just started a multi

vitamin a month or so ago. I need the potassium to offset a blood pressure pill

I am taking. It has helped with tithe pain I had from the low potassium but I

have felt like crap for the last little while and don't know why. It just a

general feeling of bla, tired more then usual, grumpy, etc.... I wonder if

there is something in the multi, it only has 2mg so I would hope it not that.

Now for my question, how much is too much for a child. My 8 year old take a

multi and it has 1 mg. She does not complain about anything bugging her but I

wonder after reading this if it is having a negative effect. Always something

else to worry about.
