I am a 35 year old female who pretty much had my life taken away from me as

I knew it 4 years ago after a car accident while on the job. I have been

fighting a court battle ever since in Worker's Compensation Court. My

dilemma is this. I was born with a Tethered Cord and Arnold Chiari

Malformation I. Neither of which I knew ANYTHING about until after this

accident. I also have syringomyelia, a direct result of either the tethered

cord or the ACM I. I lived a full life, had a steady job, participated in

Tae Kwon do, hold the rank of Second Degree black belt and I bowled on a

team in a league. Since this accident, January 29, 2003, I know longer bowl,

do tae kwon do or participate in any of the activities I greatly enjoyed. I

can barely walk without assistance from a walking stick as I have hardly any

balance any longer. I can hardly feel anything from the neck down, and I

have lost all sensations in the perineal regions as well. So, intimacy with

my husband is a major challenge. There is so very little that is known about

Tethered cords, Arnold Chiari Malformations and Syringomyelia. What is known

however is devastating. In my case, I have been told that without treatment,

I will be paralyzed within the next year or two. I was told this last

October by Dr. Mora at The Chiari Institute in Great, Neck New York. The

syrinx that is in my spinal cord takes up approximately 70-80% of the width

of my spinal cord, which accounts for the loss of sensations and the great

deal of pain I suffer through on a daily basis. My biggest problem is

getting treatment for this condition. Because of the accident, I lost my

job. I have no income coming in other than my husbands. His company will not

provide health insurance for me because everything would be considered

pre-existing and the worker's comp insurance company is trying to get out of

everything since they are claiming I had a congenital condition. Even though

I had no symptoms of these conditions before the accident and I have had

several doctors, including the doctors at the Chiari Institute, who are the

world's experts in this field, all say that had I not been in that car

accident, I would have remained asymptomatic probably for the remainder of

my life. I am looking for someone to get the word out on what ACM and

tethered cord and Syringomyelia are. Many people suffer from this and we are

blown off every day as attention seekers or drug addicts and it isn't right.

Me personally? I just want my life back.
