Guest guest
Many parents and advocates in the Houston and South Texas area have asked us when the National PASS Network is planning to do a Parents Saturday Workshop in Houston. Next month on October 23, the Family to Family Network is sponsoring what we are hope is an ongoing Parents Saturday Workshop-Houston. The workshop will be at the brand new Marriott Houston Energy Corridor in Houston. The workshop ÒAccessing Social Security Disability Benefits to Provide Opportunities for Self-Support for People with DisabilitiesÓ is a must for families who need to plan and learn how to access these important federal disability benefit support programs for their children of any age. Learn more about the National PASS Network's advocacy work at http://bit.ly/aboutNPN . A complete Training Agenda for the Parents Saturday Workshop-Houston can be downloaded at http://bit.ly/NPN-Agenda The Social Security disability programs(SSDI and SSI) provide many positive opportunities for children, young adults and older persons with disabilities, but these opportunities are available only if informed parents and caregivers know about the programs and know how to access them. The Social Security Administration does not come looking for you. If you donÕt know about these benefit programs, they can not and will not help your child. Don't put off this chance to get this important advocacy information in the Houston area! WHAT YOU WILL LEARN The Parent Saturday Workshop-Houston will provide families with a comprehensive consumer background on how the federal disability benefit programs work(and don't work) and how to access the programs; what the eligibility requirements are for all the Social Security disability programs; how to calculate eligibility and; how to make sure that you receive the full amount of your SSI eligibility--and much, much more. We work to help make you expert parent disability benefit advocate. Participants will learn how to use the variety of helpful disability benefit programs like the Plans for Achieving Self-Support (PASS ) as your child begins transition employment in high school to preserve benefits and pay for needed services. You will learn how to make sure Social Security pays the full amount of SSI (most parents only get 2/3 of SSI eligibility for their child). You will learn how to advocate positively for benefits for your child with denial-oriented SSA claims representatives. The comprehensive workshop is also appropriate for parents as they do future planning to preserve SSI and Medicaid benefits eligibility as their child grows older. For a more detailed explanation of the workshop and the many positive comments parents who have attended our workshops have to say about the training, go to our full online brochure at http://bit.ly/NPNWksp . YOUR COURSE LEADER The parents workshop is presented by longtime national disability benefit advocate Scarborough. Mr. Scarborough has 28 years experience presenting this kind of advocacy information. His easy-to-understand, non-technical and graphic-rich presentation style emphasizes a person-first, consumer empowerment what-you-can-do approach to understanding and accessing the complicated Social Security disability benefit and long-term care programs for adults and children. Mr. Scarborough is known nationally for his decades of dedicated work with children with severe disabilities and adults with lifelong disabilities and their access to Social Security disability benefits and health supports from Medicare and Medicaid to live in their community with their family and friends.
