Guest guest
Henry, I have only seen one Trane CleanEffects installed. It was less than a year old. All the electrode tips were corroded and the grid had to be replaced. The homeowner felt a lot better after the new electrodes were installed so I guess there was a great improvement in the filtration (which may have been nil given the mushroom-shaped oxide deposits at each tip!). The difference between the old fashioned electrode is that these were smooth wires. The new Trane has sharp points for electrodes. I guess the voltage is so high that the first version of steel can't take the corona. Of course, the hoopla around these is great but performance in the field may be something different from that in the lab. Either the woman's unit was defective or improvements are needed in the electrodes. May May Indoor Air Investigations www.mayindoorair.com 11. Any experience with Trane CleanEffects? Posted by: " slack.henry@... According to the Web site (http://www.trane.com/Residential/Products/air-filtration/CleanEffects-Air-Filtr\ ation) CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) = 1200. (!!!) Device generates a tiny amount of ozone that can be 3 ppb in the house itself. The device appears to be a variation on an electrostatic precipitator; but you maintain by a vacuum or rinse every 3-9 months, which is unlike the precipitators.. It is NOT on the CA list of ozone generators. (http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/indoor/ozone.htm) Any experience with this unit? Other comments? Thankx!
