Guest guest
Do, I haven't tried any commercial liquid clay with kombucha, so I can not answer that. I do believe that any clay (French, Green, etc) will work. For Kombucha Tea. rate of 1-6 grams per gallon of KT less for KT that is almost clear and the higher for more cloudy. Bentonite must be hydrated before being used. It is the electrical charge, in the case of Bentonite clay = negative that helps clarify KTand this is produced from the interaction of the clay and water. Measure out the desired quantity (say, 2 grams). Pour 3/4 cup of boiling water into a small bowl (for 4 grams of Bentonite, use 1-1/2 cups of boiling water) and add the Bentonite. If you do not have a gram scale, one measured teaspoon of Bentonite weighs 5.4 grams. Use a small whisk and mix the Bentonite-water into slurry. Mix for at least two minutes, working out any lumps that form. You want a creamy consistency. Cover and set aside for 24 hours. Do NOT skip this step! The Bentonite will settle, so grab the whisk and whip it into slurry again. Alternative method: Making Bentonite with 1 pint of boiling Water in a blender. Turn blender on high for 3 minutes. let mixture stand for 20 minutes. Slurry is now ready. If No Blender Is Available: Mix 3 tablespoons of Bentonite with 1 pint of boiling water in a sauce pan. Allow to cool. Then put in a glass bottle or similar. Shake for 10 minutes. Let stand over-night. Shake again before using. For the mineral/ health benefits the recommended dose of 4-5 grams (level tsp) per glass (8 fl oz) about 1/2 oz (15 g) per Quart/liter of KT. live free and healthy Ed Kasper L.Ac., Acupuncturist & Medicinal Herbalist http://HappyHerbalist.com eddy@... ............................................................. ......................... 3b. question for Ed Caspar re : Bentonite clay and Kombucha Posted by: " canadiangirlsdream " canadiangirlsdream@... canadiangirlsdream Date: Tue Jun 13, 2006 5:21 pm (PDT) Hello Ed, I would like to follow your suggestion to use Bentonite clay in kombucha. I went to a health food store today to pick some up, but then stopped since I did not know if it is better to use the dry powder kind or the liquid Bentonite? I assume probably the powder, but am not certain. Also, could I use green clay for the same purpose? I am not so much after the clarifying effect, but more after the minerals in the clay which I think might add an extra dimension to my kombucha experience. Thanks in advance, Do
Guest guest
Ed, thanks so much for your info! I am still not clear about the amount to use. Is your reference at the bottom meant for use in kombucha, or for drinking bentonite in water? I think you mean the latter?... Let's say then that I am dealing with 3 liters of fermented kombucha tea, and I want to reap the benefits of the minerals in the bentonite. and want to use the blender method. Would I be using 1 tsp of clay to 1 1/2 cups of boiling water, blend in blender for 3 min. then let sit for 20 min. then add all (the slurry) to the 3 l of fermented kombucha tea? Then let stand for 4-5 days until I want to drink it? Thanks again for your kind suggestions and for being patient, Do In original_kombucha , " Ed Kasper LAc " wrote: > > Do, I haven't tried any commercial liquid clay with > kombucha, so I can not answer that. > I do believe that any clay (French, Green, etc) will work. > For Kombucha Tea. rate of 1-6 grams per gallon of KT less > for KT that is almost clear and the higher for more cloudy. > Bentonite must be hydrated before being used.
