Dear ,

No new news on Strattera from us, just sympathy! MY Anne's ADHD (also

inattentive type) is much more of a problem for us than her OCD or TS. In fact,

it is driving me INSANE! She also gets A's on half of her work, F's on the

other half - usually because she forgot to do it, or turn it in, or just did

such

a hurried, lousy job on it because she was thinking about something else.

Frustrating. It's so hard to watch them shoot themselves in the foot, and so

hard

to understand WHY they can't just do the work!

I am planning to ask Annie's doctor to increase her Concerta at our next

appt. We tried that about 1 1/2 years ago, and it was too much, but she has

grown a huge amount since then. Maybe it will help. As you may remember,

Strattera caused Annie to sleep about 7 extra hours a day, made her OCD and tics

worse, and didn't do anything positive. A real disappointment, since we had

waited

so long for its release. But give it a try - others have had positive

experiences with it. The only ADHD med that Annie can handle is Concerta, and it

only

helps a bit.

Best wishes,

in NV

mom to Annie, 11, with OCD, TS and ADHD (I'm trying to remember to call her

Annie on this list, since there are now two Annes!!)

My son uses Strattera. It is very expensive, so I hope you have insurance.

We switched from concerta to strattera to minimize tics. Which it did. It

is a difficult to balance the OCD (over focus) with ADD (under focus). The

stimulant in concerta helped him jump start, but it is not favorable over

the muscle aches from the tics.

God Bless You,

Subject: Strattera, anyone?

Hello-

I know Strattera has been discussed before (I just researched the

archives), but I was wondering if anyone has had any more recent

experience with this med (realizing that everyone is different).

Anne recently went through a battery of psycological/personality

testing, and the p-doc feels strongly that she has co-morbid

inattentive-ADHD along with her OCD (I am not at all surprised...her

lack of organizational skills is a hallmark of her personality).

The disorganization is causing school difficulties...grades have

dropped from A's to C's/D's with the expected responsibility of

turning work in without reminders etc. of 7th grade (she gets A's

when she remembers to turn things in, 'F's because they're late.

Strattera has been suggested as an adjunct to the pharmacologic arm

of her therapy. I would welcome any suggestions/experiences/hugs...

Thanks much-

(Ohio) Anne (13, OCD and now ADD....Lexapro and ?)

Hi ,

I'm familiar with the " expected responsibility " aspect of school,

what with 3 sons.

However, if her disorganization & forgetfulness can be attributed to

her " disability " , then I would fight the school on the low grades

that are due to this. There should be something in her IEP/504 to

address this, even if it means - sigh - that teachers will have to

walk up to her or call her to desk and actually ASK her for the

assignments. If she's forgetting to do them, then a system needs to

be set up for communication that will actually get TO you about what

is missing to keep you updated.

's disorganization might get a tad better but this child will

never be organized and will need prompts/reminders. He might have

his good days/weeks/months but there will be forgetful, stressful

ones to. And with , in the past it was at one time due to his

OCD. But at other times I can blame the Aspergers part of him. So I

can't tell the school " because of " a specific one thing, they just

have to let try to work to improve himself in this area but

accept the disorganization without any major grade effects because it

IS due to his " disability. "

has been forgetful lately about his work. (I asked if there

was some girl?? No.) And my older son would just not do some work if

he knew it wouldn't be graded. Those 2 of my sons, it's fine with me

if they get a low grade as they CAN help what they do. is

actually trying his best and deserves to be rewarded for the effort.

So....after my vent....I would find something - from the doctor or in

writing - that you can show the school that the disorganzation, etc.,

is related to her diagnosis/LD. And call a meeting. And have them

go back and change any grades this grading period if it'll mean a

really lower grade.

OK, I'm at work and gotta get back TO work! Let us know how things

go. Sorry no Strattera experience here! (And I don't have time to

proofread, excuse any errors)

Nothing new has come along that I have heard. It is still working very well

with my OCD, ADHD son. He takes 60 mg each morning. It has definitely helped

his ability to focus, especially at school.

From what I have heard from others...

It can work for some and not for others. Seems to be across the board

either you hate it or love it. My son tried it for 2 days and refused

to take it anymore. It caused him great dizziness as his major

complaint. We switched to provigil and he has not had the side effect

problems...though I'm not sure if it is helping with organization

issues.
