Guest guest
Hi - I'm new to this group and this is my first post. I am a first time mom to a beautiful 9 week old boy. He is exclusively breastfed and for the past 4 weeks he started to skip days between bowel movements. Previously he had about 2-3 dirty diapers a day, now he'll go up to 9 days without going and will usually go after we give him a laxitive or suppository. The doctor reassures me that he's healthy and breastfed babies can skip many days between bowel movements, my concern is that 9 days seemed excessive and my baby, while most of the daytime is very happy, he does suffer from horrible gas and gets extremely fussy in the evenings. When day 9 hit this last time the Pediatrician told me to bring him in, he did a rectal exam and said that there was no blood in his stool and that it seemed soft so he didn't seem constipated. He gave me a perscription for Miralax (2 tsp / day mixed with 2oz breastmilk) and that I should give this to him every day for a month. This seems excessive, especially at such a young age and I"m concerned about getting my baby dependent on laxitives in order to relieve himself. Has anyone had similiar experiences? Thanks!
