Gaylen,

I read your post and had to smile :)

I live off of the 91 and have to drive to the 710 for work a few times a month.

My office is in LA and I live in Riverside (about a 1.5 hour drive without

traffic) and today, with the rain it was a 3 hour drive home.

I read what you wrote about the motorcycle drivers, and I too want to throw

coffee at them.

For future reference, in California, we have what is called Fast Track. It is a

car pool lane you have to pay for. They offer a greatly reduced rate for parents

that are toting around a child with a disability. It is so worth the $10.00 if

you are going to be in the LA area for a few days. It can cut any drive time

down to a third of what normal traffic time would be.

Take care!

Inexpensive car/hotel in LA area

Hi Everyone,

We just got back from our trip to see Dr. G and thought I'd share about the

inexpensive rental car we used -- $17.95 per day with Fox Rental Car. I did

a websearch on rental cars in LA and found them plus a coupon for a free

upgrade. It wasn't the nicest car in the world but was reliable and

comfortable and good for our budget and they do have an airport courtesy van.

Also, we stayed at the Hawthorne Suites Ltd. in Anaheim for $68 a night --

another web deal. They have a very large room that is divided into a bedroom

and living area with some sliding doors. It had a king size bed and queen

sleeper sofa, fridge and microwave. They had a free hot breakfast and free

light dinner on Wednesday night but the food was pretty bad so I wouldn't

consider that much of a plus. It is a few blocks from Disneyland so nice if

you plan to stay an extra day to play. It's 50 miles from Dr. G but the

freeway was totally clear all the way there so we got there in about an hour

with no delays at all.

We did find I-5 coming towards Anaheim, plus 10, 605 and 405 to be very

congested every day and what is it with those motorcycles zipping out of

nowhere going between lanes? My husband had all sorts of ideas on how to

discourage them from coming up on us -- kind of made it into a game -- I

think if he had had some coffee, he would have thrown it out the window at

one of the poor guys :). You guys were right about the traffic, but if you

have a good map, you can find several back highways like 91 and 710 to easily

get around the traffic. If you have a AAA membership, stop by one of their

offices and pick up their maps. They were very helpful.

Our flight was wonderful -- a direct one on American -- on a huge airplane

with video screens. Curtis loved the travel screen -- especially the mileage

calculations :).
