Guest guest
Dear friends, Thank you so much for all of your warm, genuine and heart-warming responses to my recent posting. You are such an incredible group of people. I guess God truly knew how to pick the best parents to care for our wonderful kids. I just had a few technical questions about our son's first response to the diet: He's now been completely dairy free for about 4 days and gluten-free about 80% of the time. It's been kind of easy because all he wants to eat are his bottles of rice milk, potatoe chips, french fries and the CF/GF peanut butter cookies I bought. 1. Anyway, we have not noticed anything dramatic yet in terms of positive improvements, however, he did come down with the worst cold of his life about 2 days into the diet. 2. Also, he seems to have experienced an increase in some tantrums and moodiness. One new thing he started was banging his head backwards against his carseat or highchair. He cries when he does it and rubs his head, but does it about 4-5 times first before he stops. He doesn't do it in a " zoned-out " way or out-of-the blue. He just started this only when he does not get his way and is mad. Of course, this freaked us out because we thought-- " Oh my God he is getting worse/more autistic?? Do any of your kids have history of this? 3. He also has not had a bowel movement since about 2 days ago. Normally, he is like clock-work since the day he was born. He always goes twice---once about 8 a.m. and again at 5:00p.m. Is this normal to have the constipation with the diet change? How long do you go without getting our MD involved. 4. Now that he is not drinking whole milk---he does not take in any form of protein right??? He does eat an occasional piece of bacon. I know that nitrate are bad. I'm having a hard time locating nitrate free stuff around here. I just was worried about how long he can go without any protein??? Doesn't it hurt their hearts to take in so little? 5. We are starting to get all the labs done and sent in our packet for Dr. G. I guess it will be months before we can actually go see him. Was it wrong to start the diet BEFORE THE LABS??? Did most of you have your own pediatrician do the labs---are there some you must send out to specific labs that Dr. G. trusts? Our MD has 3 other Goldberg clients so I am hoping she knows the drill?
