Guest guest
Welcome to all the new members! As you can probably already tell, we are an active group and have many different opinions. This is a wonderful source of information and support. I've been active in one on-line support list or another for almost four years now. Just a little about me: I'm 55 years old, grew up with a very obvious lipomyelomeningocele - but never had surgery as a child or even a young adult. I had stable continence (bowel and bladder) issues and gait difficulties. Since I grew up with them, I always figured out a way to deal with them. In my late 40s things began to change and I had lots of pain. My doctors told me I had arthritis in my hips and knees. Eventually I figured out this was way beyond that diagnosis and insisted upon seeing a neuro doc to find out if it was related to my spina bifida. Sure enough - that's when I found out about tethered cord and TCS. Had my only cord release surgery 4 years ago. Due to infections and a bad reaction to anesthesia, it took me a very long time to heal. I am better, but now I get more medical attention and deal with symptoms better. The only new problem was some spascity after surgery. I work full time as a social worker, edit manuscripts for extra money for a publishing company, date a wonderful guy, have two sons - on in Pennsylvania and the other in Japan, three grandchildren, and live with two cats and lots of fish! (I've decided I have trouble creating a short version of my life!) Since I'm working today - best go get dressed! Welcome again to everyone. -- Life shrinks or expands In proportion to one’s courage.
