Guest guest
I am not sure how helpful for your son this would be, but I have eczema and use cortisone creams to heal my hands, the generic brand at Rite Aid works fine and then sleep with white cotton gloves. This keeps the cream on and the itching stops. I also take benadryl to knock me out and not scratch in sleep. Atarax is something the Ped gave my son for his eczema and it was a liquid form that I placed in his bottle and when my 8 year old had dental work they added atarax with oj to drink before doing work on him to help calm him. Maybe taking photos of his hands looking sore would be a visual reminder to use the cream and then take photo when they are healed as a reinforcer. There are websites that show eczema in bad condition, maybe that would get him to stop. My son wipes his lips and mouth constantly so I got him some lip balm and have to remind him to use it. Due to the hot water taking too long to come on my son has stopped washing his hands as often. We are in CA, but at my parents house in NJ my Mother would turn off the hot water to conserve and only use it when needed, would that be an alternative so he would have the cold hands. I know that running cold water is very soothing on itchy hands. Due to the cold, dry weather, and all of 's handwashing, his hands have become severely chapped. After consulting a doctor, we are using Nutragena hand cream to help with the chapped hands. However, fairly soon after it is applied, feels the need to wash his hands. (He can go for like 30 min. or more). We are trying to keep him from washing his hands after it's applied at night, to try and give his hands a chance to heal. But he just really
Guest guest
Thank you all so much for your replies regarding my son's chapped hands from the handwashing. You all had a lot of great information for me! I really appreciate it! Thanks so much. I will look into the gloves. And the Cetaphil. I was somewhere tonight and someone recommended it as she'd used it for her son! So I will look into it. is off all meds at the moment as we are inbetween treatment places and we couldn't get in for a medical evaluation until Dec. 30th. But so far, we've seen so many positive changes with him being on no meds. So I will look into using Benedryl as well. My brother-in-law had recommended it for my ds's sleep disorder. So this might be good as well. Thanks again and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! Melinda
Guest guest
My 4 yod has that same problem with her hands some. Mostly dry and red. I started to have her use Extra Emollient Night Cream from Kay that my mom uses (it is $11). It seems to work okay and it has some bees wax and stays on a little better after washing.
