Obama is an embarrassment to the country and a disgrace

Not to start a political or race riot here, but I can't agree more. All those who were so thrilled when he got elected are due for a rude wake up call--and it won't take long. All anyone has to do is look past the excitement of "our first Black president" and see what has been done in various areas so far--where he stands on certain issues. Or where many in his administration stand. It is FRIGHTENING what some of us see coming. BTW--I won't carry this discussion further--anyone can do the research if interested. Check out such things as socialized medicine/health insurance, organic farming/Monsanto/GMO crops, most family issues (homeschooling, immunization, Big Pharma, abortion, etc.). If you're not scared yet, to quote Yoda--"You will be." Marilyn Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for under $10.

Obama is an embarrassment to the country and a disgrace. His

inhumanity is apparent. He not only promotes abortion up to and after

birth--and let's face it, particularly for babies with impairments--

but he ridicules them!

Wow. I am the first to admit I did not vote for the man but I had fully

intended to support him and the first family because I am nonetheless an

American and proud that the first African American President was elected

during my lifetime. With that said, I guess it is apparent that " You don't

know what you don't know " and that ignorance reaches even the most educated

echelons. My daughter, 8, will be competing in her first Special Olympics in

April and I can assure you that she would whoop Sasha and Malia's butts in a

gymnastics competition. I was actually very surprised to hear that come out

of his mouth. I think what is more disturbing to me is how much free time he

apparently has-shooting hoops in Chicago, bowling at the White House,

jet-setting to CA to film the Tonight Show, hosting Miley Cyrus for private

screening of her new movie. And he's only been in office 2 months?

I did not vote for Obama because he was "black", I voted for Obama because for me, it was the "right" thing to do.

And I hope you continue to think you did the right thing. I really do! I WANT to be proven wrong about him. So far--not so good, unfortunately.

I do not "fawn" over Obama because of his "race",

That's good--but many, many others do. It's been painfully obvious the whole way through since he came on the political scene. Marilyn

This according to....

It seems to me that there has been a lot of people writing (as of late) that

want to be heard but are unwilling to hear. I think that we could all do to

remember that just because I don't agree with you does not make me wrong. We

are all very different but have ONE thing in common...we have been given the

gifts of these children. The world is NEVER going to understand because they

are not THEIR gift. They are ours. It seems to me that instead of tearing each

other apart, we should work harder at uniting and building upon our

commonalities...our beautiful children.

By the way, I did not vote for Obama because he was " black " , I voted for Obama

because for me, it was the " right " thing to do. I do not " fawn " over Obama

because of his " race " , but as the mother of a child who the world believes will

never measure up, I am happy for others who transcend the world's measuring

stick. :)

I agree with you 100%. I said the same thing to

myself. I have been trying to focus on the good (like the first black

president). But it’s obvious that his reason for running was to

MAKE history and BE president. He wants to be famous, not lead our

country (ironically he’s famous now for leading our country even if it IS

right down the crapper).

I think it’s fitting that he is a fame hungry

president because we live in an entertainment hungry society. We are certainly

getting our fill now.

There are a lot of judgments here regarding Obama's motivations that may or not

be true. If we don't want others to " judge " us and our children, I think we

should limit our " judgment " of others and their motivations. I think it would

be helpful in our discourses to focus on what we do " know " or identify what we

" think " as merely our opinions among an ocean of other opinions.

I did not vote for him because I am pro-life and I too feel there is something fundamentally wrong with a person who can advocate for killing unborn babies.I feel that way about ALL politicians, and there are plenty more who hold the same view. But he is our President, and even though I don't like a lot of what he has done, and dislike even more the nasty attitudes many of his supporters have towards conservatives- I try not to hold that against him and honestly hope he helps the country. If he fails, then at least we know what doesn't work. I would not want to be him at all. He has so much riding on him right now. What I like even less is how the country is so horribly divided and it seems that each side wants to be 'right' so badly they are willing to stomp on

everything and everyone who get's in their way. And that goes for both sides. I have been switching back and forth from liberal to conservative radio talk shows and honestly- they are BOTH so full of BS, it's not even funny. It's a very sad state we are in now. Not every criticism is a judgment. When someone expresses a dislike or points out a fault that is not judgment. It's an observation. It's an expression of one's opinion. It's not judgment when you point out that someone's behavior is unacceptable. And if someone seeks to be a leader, teacher, etc. they must be held to a higher standard of responsibility. We don't know Obama's heart, no one ever will, only God. All we have to look at is his fruit (track record).

Your last line...

" I do not "fawn" over Obama because of his "race", but as the mother of a child who the world believes will never measure up, I am happy for others who transcend the world's measuring stick. :)"

What measuring stick would you be using to think Obama transcends the world's measuring stick? I am sure we don't use the same measuring stick at all .

I'm about ready to discontinue participation in this group. Someone makes a stupid insensitive remark and there practically a midieval stoning! My parents are both clergy: and I grew up in a household that believed for every criticizm, you'd need to have ten affirmations to make up for it.

I know I've said stupid ignorant things on occasion. We are all human beings, and every one is insensitive at times. The question is whether people can become enlightened!! I am sure that Obama has reflected on the stupidity of his remark.

My son with DS is now 4 years old. I know DS is a "disability", but in no way is he inferior to anyone else. As a matter of fact he has obvious greater abilities in many areas than "typical" kids. Things balance out. People have weakness and strengths. My joy in my life is focusing on my son's attributes and everyone elses.

As a nearing 50 year old single parent of 5 kids (1 with DS and 2 with psychiatric disorders), I've developed a thicker skin. Life is too short to be focusing on negativity. I really don't care how thin my deli meat is sliced, and whether my lawn has crabgrass. Spending time bashing for days a thoughtless remark would just take away from me, time spent doing something more meaningful. Life is too short and I'm too busy!!!

Instead of putting it off on someone else to not read your snippy remarks, why

don " t you own your own behavior? I too have thought numerous times about

leaving this group. Why? Because of the bitter, snippy, and truly

un-Christlike remarks that sometimes FLOOD the interactions. I have read on

numerous occasions statements that I see no utility in besides wounding others.

Then there is a social phenomenon that occurs called identification with the

aggressor. When this occurs, it becomes a feeding frenzy with one bite after

another on the one who dared to be different with the group think. Why don't I

leave this group? Because there will be that ONE time that there is some

information gleaned that has the potential to help my son. So, here I am again.

Instead of this being a bash Obama list-serve, why don't we all just go back to

exchanging information relative to DS? It is the ONE domain that there appears

to be a least SOME commonality.

Not sure, but maybe she is referring to the way the world measures people based on theirphysical appearance or other prejudices. Obama did transcend the long held prejudices of the many towards blacks. That is something to be happy about. Carol in ILMom to , 8 DS My problem is not how I look. ,
