Guest guest
This hurts my heart. It tears me up, until I realize some of the other things celebrities spout out. So sad for all including him, as it must be hard to be that ignorant..... e Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... Denis Leary Slams Autism As A Jokehttp://www.huffingt onpost.com/ 2008/10/15/ denis-leary- slams-autism_ n_134749. html document.write( ' Get Breaking News Alerts never spam '); DENIS Leary should brace himself for hate mail from the parents of kids diagnosed with autism. In his new book, "Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid," the joke-slinging "Rescue Me" star writes about the brain disorder: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both." The Autism Society of America responded: "For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous . .. . remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago." Keep reading -plus- In November's Vanity Fair, in a Q & A, Leary calls it his "favorite chapter": Join our listserv! Don't get your news second hand! Guest guest
Denis Leary has made his career with inappropriate, ignorant and offensive jokes. He is a self-admitted alcoholic and I think I heard that he's been addicted to drugs, too. No one will take him seriously. Sara Re: Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Some may not take him seriously...but I've heard more than a few families (even on this group) who do not understand autism, and even deny it, even with their own family members..."the kid needs more discipline" etc. I do think we as mom's need to respond....in a nice and adult way for sure, but we do need to respond, as Autism is still often times misunderstood. Guest guest
Probably Mr. Leary is that kind of person who himself has issues and is bound to deny it for an entire lifetime. --- Den ons 2008-10-15 skrev Sara : Från: Sara Ämne: Re: Re: Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Till: AutismBehaviorProblems Datum: onsdag 15 oktober 2008 19.36 Denis Leary has made his career with inappropriate, ignorant and offensive jokes. Guest guest
I always consider the source. I don't think he has ever had a good word to say about anyone or anything. > > > > ... > > Denis Leary Slams Autism As A Joke > > http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/15/denis-leary-slams- > autism_n_134749.html > > > > > > > > > > DENIS Leary should brace himself for hate mail from the parents of > kids diagnosed with autism. > > > > In his new book, " Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, > Loud, Lazy and Stupid, " the joke-slinging " Rescue Me " star writes > about the brain disorder: > > > > " There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive > mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb- > ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the > happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain > away the deficiencies of their junior morons. Guest guest
I adore this letter to Denis Leary, and know that much, much more will be said in the near future. It's a good thing. As long as it's done respectfully, it is a real good thing. J Re: Re: Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recent Activity 19 New MembersVisit Your Group Meditation and Lovingkindness A Yahoo!
