Guest guest
Hi, The topic of raw foods is very interesting to me. At various times in my life I've been on an all raw foods diet, I have friends who have been all raw, I've tried Aajonos' raw animal foods diet, I've done juice fasts, cleansing diets with all raw foods and herbs/psyllium/bentonite to detoxify and I've hung out (in the past) in the raw foods world. My experience and strong belief is that we are individuals and that different diets work best for different people at different times in their lives. I, for instance, and others with carbohydrate sensitivites or yeast problems, really suffer on carrot and other fruit juices and eating so much fruit. Experience with folks I've known who have done all raw for a long time is that, for most people, the diet eventually fails them in some way. At the same time I do believe that for a lot of people that an all raw diet can be very healing, but that for most people it is not a healthy diet for a prolonged period of time. Consider that the Ayurvedic system, that has been around for thousands of years, leans heavily to cooked foods. So does traditional Chinese medicine. I believe that any " clean " diet will heal cancer in some people. Also, regarding raw foods. A VERY large number of the people I know who have done raw foods religiously and have endured it have become very religious and rigid in their beliefs about diet, even to the point of continuing a diet that was obviously failing them. I do not in any way mean to discount anyone's successful long-term experience with a raw foods diet. Most any diet will work well for some people. To those of you who have been doing an all raw diet for five or ten or more years and have radiant health I congratulate and respect you deeply. It's not an easy diet to follow. Regarding raw animal foods, I do believe that adding animal foods to an all raw diet makes it much healthier and sustainable. What I don't like about Aajonus' approach is that there is ZERO science and ZERO documentation of the supposed research he did to validate his approach. Clearly Aajonus is one of the people who thrives with a raw animal food diet and would probably die with any other diet. I don't make the leap of faith, though, that therefore raw animal foods is the perfect diet for every living human. I do believe that many of us would benefit from more raw foods than we currently eat. I myself am drawn to raw green juices, raw animal foods, fermented foods and soaked nuts. I highly recommend that everyone read as many articles as you can in http://www.beyondveg.com/. It helped me very much to see how an extreme diet came from old patterns of obsession and perfectionism. Sol
