Guest guest
My 4 yod will be 5 in a few days. Her 4th year has been the hardest on her and us all. Her OCD became full blown after we had 2 deaths in the family in 3 weeks and had to make 3 trips 8 hrs away. Before that we had no idea anything was wrong. Looking back I can see a few quirks that were OCDish, but nothing major. She has been seeing a therapist since April. It has helped her and me cope with things. Since then I realized I have it also (which has gotten a little worse because of all the stress) and my 12 yod also has it (which got worse also). At least we can all be in it together. Although my 4 yod has it the worse and was also diagnosed with DSI, fine motor delay and Auditory Processing Disorder. She started OT and speech therapy in Oct. for that. She loves her therapists. It is going to be hard when she doesn't have to go, she will " grieve " over it I know. Although it would be so nice not to be so busy and stay home now and then and just do schoolwork (we homeschool). I know she gets overwhelmed, some days she will say can we not go anywhere today. I am tired of it also. My 12 yod is doing the ERT, I guess I have doing that all my life without realizing it. We are not seeing a therapist. Just doing it on our own. We couldn't afford it anyway. These therapist app. are breaking the bank even with insurance. My 4 yod went to see a psyc this week. Her therapist, a LCSW, wanted to rule out Asperger's. He said after observing her she didn't have it. Which I did wander about it, however she just didn't seem to fit it. He said I was very informed and was doing everything I needed to do to help her and medication was not necessary, unless I wanted it. We are using beCalm'd right now, my 12 yod seems to think is is helping some. Guest guest
Hi, Regarding " OCDish quirks " , it was that way with when he was young. I had noted " hmmm...a little OCD type thing there " but nothing major, nothing that really interfered with life to any degree. Then for some reason later on, as you said, it became " full blown. " I also have my OCD quirks, but at least they are still " quirks " more or less, though a couple or so stronger episodes many, many years ago. Like you, the ERT was something I just did on my own. With all the supports your 4 y/o is getting right now - my opinion - a diagnosis wouldn't get her any more and you can just keep working with her on any weak areas you see. However, much later if instinct keeps having you think " Aspergers " then follow up again. Keep us updated on all!!!
Guest guest
HI : Thanks for the update. It is not unusual for other family members to recognize similar symptoms when one family member gets their diagnosis. Good for you doing ERP naturally. I have read that historically several famous people with OCD have done the same thing, very good insight. Take care, aloha, Kathy (h) kathy.hi@... > My 4 yod will be 5 in a few days. My son (now 7) started with APD and some sensory integration issues at age 4. Then came the tics and OCD (PANDAS). I'm a special education teacher, and I know that when I describe a child as having all of these comorbids, he sure sounds a lot like an asperger's kid! But, my son is so social and outgoing with a great sense of self and expressed empathy. I am starting to wonder if there is a connection with the auditory processing piece, as well. Glad to hear things are going well. Jeanne jwestpha@... NBCT - Exceptional Needs (2000)
