Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has had any success brewing KT with yerba

mate. I know yerba mate is full of various nutrients, and is

considered a health tonic by itself. I have been planning to try it,

but figured I would see if anyone here has had sucess with it...

Thanks,

Marcus

A bit of Yerba Mate may be added to, but not substituted for, the real stuff.

It's been tried and it apparently doesn't kill the brew.

I prefer to keep the brewing basic and add these things as a cocktail mix at

serving time.

Messing with perfection rarely improves anything but frequently impairs it.

Having said that, there are a few tweaks that have succeeded.

Elder flower tea, cold steeped and added to the tea at the same time as you

inoculate with scoby and starter.

This gives a champagne effect by lightening the taste and adding some sparkle

with the yeast that come with the elder flower. That why you must cold steep the

elder tea.

Dried Hibiscus flowers added with the tea to the boiled water. A nice orange or

ruby red color depending on the variety of flower and a mellow flavor.

Colleen preferred Earl Grey tea, and detected no negative effects from the

bergamot herb that gives EGT it's flavor. But these good blends are few and

rare.

And in all of the successful blends REAL teas were used and the other stuff

added.
