Guest guest
HI, I don’t post often but I have a question for you knowledgeable parents. I just started to give my daughter (almost 7) gingko in capsule form. The brand is Solaray that I bought at the health store; it is 60mg but I only gave her half a capsule 2 days in a row. This may be unrelated, but I noticed yesterday (the second day of dosing) that she had a few bumps in her genital region. She is still in pullups, so I assumed it was diaper rash related. It had stepped up by last night, so I used a diaper rash ointment...this morning, the rash had spread and she looked a little bit swollen. It looks like very small red bumps but now her whole genital area is inflamed. It doesn’t seem to bother her at all and she otherwise seems fine. There’s no scratching or fussing with herself, so I’m not sure what to do in this case. At first, I thought it might be due to an antibiotic she was on, but the last dose she took of that was Sun. Seems like a reaction would have shown up before now. The only other thing that is new is the gingko. I looked up the side effects and only one website mentioned skin allergy as a side effect. Has anyone heard of this? I’m wondering if it is the gingko itself or if it’s something in this particular brand...Even though she was only on it for 2 days, I have seen some improvements like complete sentences, asking questions, expressing her feelings – a real leap for her! I am hoping that it’s not all forms of gingko... I have her home from school now, I’m going to put a call in to the dr. next. Thanks for any knowledge you can share about this.
