Hi, . Your son is experiencing compulsions when he has to fix his

clothing " just right. " A compulsion is when he feels that he has to do

something

and is distressed if he isn't able to do it. Some people do have only

obsessive thoughts and that is also OCD. Both of my children have OCD (I have

it too)

and when I was growing up, I suffered almost completely from repetitive

thoughts. My youngest daughter has always had scary thoughts with compulsions

only

when her OCD is at its worst and my oldest daughter suffers from all of it.

She has bad/scary/disturbing thoughts, needs to repeat actions, likes things

to be symmetrical, worries about contaminants, worries about making God angry,

etc. The " anal-ness " you refer to says it all. It's great that you have

found an OCD specialist. I think that the " b " therapy he refered to stands for

" behavioral. " Keep us posted! Kelley in NV

,

Our 11 y.o. DS does this same thing. It began during the past soccer

season and we noticed it carried over into any lace-up shoe he owns.

Something about the sight of the loops hanging causes unidentified

anxiety/irritation.

Hard to believe that something so seemingly harmless could be so

disturbing. Our son's Dx revolves around OCD/Anxiety/ADHD. We're

trying to get him to a point where he can begin some sort of CBT/ERT,

but we haven't been able to get his generalized anxiety in check well

enough to make him amenable.

Prayers for you,

Bill

Kelley,

Your daughter is experiencing all the same stuff our son is. He

worries someone will break in the house and kill us, contamination by

old people and infants, worried about dying because God will think

he's a bad person for having the thoughts he has, many repeated

actions/phrases, the shoelace thing I mentioned in my other reply...

Unbelieveable how varied and yet how similar most cases are!

Bill
