Guest guest
My daughter is on Stattera. It did not help the OCD or tics much, but it helps the ADHD:) the Risperdal REALLY helped the OCD! But the tics are STILL going full force. I don't know anything about the other drug. Guest guest
Therese: I'm so happy to hear that Straterra has helped Luke. It has helped a lot, even though we've had to drop his dose because irritability became a problem (irritability is stating it mildly). So we went back to Straterra in the morning and Tenex (med like clonidine) at bedtime and we're back to " normal " . So I'd give clonidine a try and combination has worked for , maybe it could work for Luke too. Take care. Tamra Strattera Hello everyone. Just wanted to updated you on my 10 yr old son. We have been on Stattera for some time now and he has not had any bad side effects from it. Since stopping the Ritalin, I have seen his ticks decrease about 50-60%. When at home, he lets loose and makes noises. Despite the improvement, I believe that he may benefit taking something for his Tourettes. Controling it at school, I think, just puts too much stress on him. If there is a possibility I can start him on a low dose of clonidine, I will give it a try. Through my research, I also found that clonidine can also help with ADHD. I feel Strattera has helped Luke maintain concentration in class but maybe not the same degree as Ritalin. Maybe the clonidine will help both his ticking and his ADHD. I will discuss this next week with his p-doc. Does anyone else have any opinion about clonidine? I'm aware of the S/E's. I'm also aware I need to give more time for the Strattera to kick in. Other than his perfectionism, OCD has been on the back burner at this time. BTW, for the Mom who is having problems with the school saying no to an IEP or 504 plan, you may want to print out a few entries from this site. Show these to the so called educators that there are many kids on this site that have IEP's or 504's. My son has been on the honor or merit roll for the past two years and he is getting a 504 plan finished this year. His teachers have been more than willing to work with him and make changes to help him out. If it costs extra money for them, some schools will fight tooth and nail. I would do my research, drop it in front of them diplomatically, then see if they will help or try to squirm out of it. If you can afford it, I would recommend that you find a tutor for her to help her catch up. Don't bother with Sylvan Learning Center. They cost too much. If you can find someone understanding and loving in your town, that might be the best thing for her. Luke is in fourth grade now and I have had the same tutor for him since before second grade. She was a God send. She read up on OCD and worked with his problems. The school system will never get her caught up fast enough. As long as I can afford it, I will have this tutor for Luke. It makes school less stressful for Luke and for me as well. Therese and Luke(10) from Ohio
Guest guest
Although we had to drop the Strattera because it made Dan's OCD behaviors go through the roof, I still remember a lot of the advice I read concerning it. A bunch of parents have noted that it seems to " poop out " later in the day, and they have good luck dividing the dose - say 2/3 of it in the morning, then the last 1/3 after school. You might talk to your dr. about giving that a try. Dan's teachers say he *is* a bit more fidgety and hyper without the Strattera, but they would rather have him like that than freaking out because he can't wash his hands enough.
