Deb,

It is a lot of Ginkgo. My son weighs around 109 lbs. and we give him

360 mg (6-60 mg Ginkgold tables) daily. That equates to 3.3 mg/lb.

We've been giving GB for about 2 years now. We have

gradually increased the dosage with fear and trembling (not quite that

bad). I increased his dosage to 360 mg on Feb 1, 2009. As usual, I

was somewhat nervous and thought that he may become more hyper.

Suprisingly, he calmed down! Did you know that Ginkgold is used in

some herbal ADHD formulations for children? This may not work for all

children but it helped my son.

It takes a lot of Ginkgo because the effective part of the GB is only

about 3%. You are trying to give the Ginkgo as a pharmaceutical, not

as a tonic for general health. There are many parents who give their

children anywhere from 2.5 mg/lb. to over 3 mg/lb. Some are starting

at 3.00 mg/lb. I personally think that 4.0 mg/lb is high, most

pararents do not go there. The sheer amount of pills may cause

stomach upset. As I stated earlier, we are experimenting with our

children. This is not an approved treatment. Ask your pediatrician.

My Dr. said that there was no problem going to 2.5 mg/lb. Of course,

we have gone beyond that. Do what you're comfortable with. The CMF

is recommending a minimum dose of 2.5 mg/lb and to give it all at one

time.
