Hi, I am new to this list and live in the DFW area (Denton County). ARC of Denton County has been little to no help and I haven't had a chance to call ARC of Dallas. I live in Little Elm ISD and as I have heard they are difficult to get in to. I have a little girl that is believed to have Aspergers vs. High Functioning Autism. She is extremely bright and even kind of social, it is just in an inappropriate way.... She is nearly 4 yrs old and my school district has been telling me how they are going to alleviate my concerns.... She had her evaluation on Friday and all I have been told is that "she did very well" and then was asked about my income and then they asked the office if we qualified for preschool by income. She is very high functioning and can be

difficult to pick out the issues that she has. I am thinking that I am going to need an advocate for my final meeting. Does anybody know of a very good one that works in Denton County?? I got a call today and they want us to come back in tomorrow for an interview and to see again, and I have been told that that is a good sign, but I know that if it wasn't for the OT and ST evaluations that I already have (which were VERY well written) and my persistence, that I wouldn't have even gotten this far.... Please if anyone has any ideas or thoughts please let me know! Thanks,Carolyn W.To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Sent: Tue, October 26, 2010 8:42:19 PMSubject: Re: Re: Public School vs ABA

Yoda gave great advice. You need to study up at slaw.com. Keep amassing the paper trail. To say that they don't have.... and can't do... is proof that they cannot provide an appropriate education. According to law, they have to do these things if it is what is necessary to provide FAPE.

I strongly suggest ABA, and of course I urge you do do biomedical intervention as well, beginning with cleaning up her diet. It seems daunting at first, and then it becomes a way of life.Let me know how things go. I know this is a rough place to be in. If they do have a BCBA come in, make sure it is one with clinical experience and not just book learning.
