Guest guest
That's a great question. I don't think we really know. We're treading new ground here. For example, if it is an open viral wound and another child licks it... in theroy, this might be a problem. If this is all a reaction to sheading metals, then no. If there isn't an open wound, then probably no. But, do we really know for sure what the rash actually is? no. You may want to see what your doctors says. - Stan > > We will be starting Valtrex this weekend with both of my children. Guest guest
This sounds like the question I asked when I came down with shingles a few years ago and my son was less than a year old and had not had chicken pox yet. One doc said no he couldn't get it from me (I was still nursing him, too), another doc and the pharmacist both said yes since I was shedding live virus until the blisters burst and dried (like chicken pox do). I would imagine it depends on the virus as well. Does Valtrex help pull other viruses besides the HSV family, such as measles?Stan Kurtz wrote: That's a great question. I don't think we really know. Guest guest
Another important question... that we still don't have the complete answer to. What viruses are we really effecting? Valtrex works well for most strains of herpes virus, but these rashes sometimes act like measles rashes. Plus, there are viruses that work synergistically with herpes viruses, so if you lessen the herpes virus you may effect other viruses that Valtrex does not directly effect. Lastly, it would seem short sighted to believe that we know of all the viruses in our body. Many researchers are chasing after unpublished herpes type viruses right now. So what is really happening here... that's part of what this group is trying to figure out. In the meantime we are seeing some interesting gains, similar to the gains that brought my son (and other children) back and I think it is important to keep documenting this and educating parents, doctors, and researchers. - Stan > > > > We will be starting Valtrex this weekend with both of my children. Guest guest
Although not necessarily Valtrex specific, my other questions would be these: if it is possible for an HSV virus to come and go, so to speak (meaning flare up and go back into remission from time to time), and other viruses such as measles and HIV are similar in the way they grow and replicate, would it be feasible to think that maybe there are times when we could have flare-ups (although not necessarily a rash to indicate it) of the measles virus (for example), or is it possible to actually kill the measles virus? As far as I understand, and I could be wrong here (and I am not a doctor, just someone who is the posterchild for runaway HSV problems - maybe those chasing the unpublished HSV should take a look at me!), the Herpes viruses cannot be killed, just put back into remission. Would this be the same for measles, rubella, HIV, and other related viruses? Could this explain some of the high measles titers some of the kids have? I wonder if they actually have always had measles, or if maybe it flares from time to time due to certain unknown triggers. Just thinking out loud here...Stan Kurtz wrote: Another important question... that we still don't have the complete answer to.What viruses are we really effecting?
