Guest guest
We drive to Plano from Houston each week and stay M-Th. I'm thrilled with the specific assessment and activities aligned with the child's specific areas of brain weakness and sensory dysfunction. There is also a center in Austin that opened recently. We chose Plano though a bit farther to have access to the more seasoned team. Although I'm sure the Austin team will also provide a strong service. I think we are very close to having enough of the missing pieces for most kids to recover or have great improvement. This being a key part in my opinion. Much more specific than OT. Diet/nutrition is part of the program. Kids in the program currently, I'm seeing 3-12 yrs old in Plano when we are there. I believe eventually they will provide the same service for adults. I believe in it so strongly, I'm considering looking into bringing a center to Houston. Some kids will need more than one 12 week session. Will keep you posted. > > Can any one share their experience? > > http://www.brainbalancecenters.com/ >

Guest guest
, Does Brain Balance have any research to back it up? I looked into it a while back and it seemed to be from the same origins as the patterning movement. Don't get me wrong, I'm open to it, but as far as I can find, there hasn't been any good research proving that these therapies work. I hope they do work, but I'm beginning to get skeptical about alternative therapies. Heck, I'm skeptical about mainstream therapies, too! Guest guest
Anyone familiar with Brainworx? Our pedi recently referred us there. It sounds great, but I'm worried about the cost. Was hoping to find someone who has gone through it and hear about the program and your review and recommendation.  Amy  What is the brain balance process and where can i get more information? Guest guest
Hi Marilyn I sure understand your questioning everything. We all are the pioneers and it's exhausting, scary, and expensive navigating all of this. I don't think any one thing works.....it's got to be comprehensive. I think the best way I can answer your question at this point in time is, that though it hasn't been around to establish research, it's based on 30 yrs of neuroscience. Autism and all the other neuroinflammatory conditions haven't demanded research prior to now with the tidal wave of children affected. So though some therapies do have research...what's the research saying? It blows my mind that my school district has determined giving kids social computer cds is " research based. " What a backward and ignorant society. As for what is research based the only thing I've really found is ABA. And for this, I believe we have to take a look at the research. The children in the original studies weren't followed into adulthood. While it's astonishing that 40% could be " indistinguishable " from their peers and go to first grade.....later research shows that only 3% of that group can actually manage life. Some went to college, but most can't live alone, have relationships, or hold down jobs. Don't get me wrong, I will never regret the ABA that we did. But as with anything it's dependent on the center (we used Spectrum of Hope), and it's dependent on the parents following through. I'm sure we'll later learn that some did well with Brain Balance and some did average with less results. I see kids walking in with plastic baggies full of chips/crackers. I've been saying for years, don't wait around for a lab test. Take all the crap away...it's inflamming our kids. I personally wouldn't pay for Brain Balance and then give my kid a Ritz cracker....seems pretty dumb. However don't get me wrong, this is the hardest ride of our lives and it's very challenging to pull all the circles together. I know parents barely hanging on and the damn cracker means 5 seconds of peace. I get it. But the fact that our kids DO respond to food....we need to look at this symptom as a clue to what's going on. The only problem I have with Brain Balance is that I believe their nutritional guidelines to be minimal. Just because someone at one point in history on a lab isn't showing an inflammatory response doesn't mean it's ok for a developing brain to be eating a Chick-fila french fry just because it's casein free. I see parents running from therapy to therapy with screaming kids in pull-ups, they are exhausted, so what do they do...they trust the " experts " and go get their child a french fry at a drive through. I swear to god I understand.....but we must ask ourselves....is it that Brain Balance didn't work..or is it combined factors. blah blah blah, so my point is at this point in time, I think common sense rules " research. " As for being burned out myself, though my kids eat well every freakin day....I just realized while I was typing this, thanks to (Kathy 's ridiculous show) that I haven't had a papsmear in over 3 years. Hard to balance it all! All the best > > , > > Does Brain Balance have any research to back it up? Guest guest
I've done 6 months of Brain Balance for my son. He has learned to ride a scooter and he is more interactive. Teachers and therapists have not noted any improvements (except his APE teacher, she mentioned his motor planning is better). My son has improved dramically in the areas in which Brain Balance measures (at least on the sensory side) but it has not translated into functional improvement. He is 8. He still cannot ask or answer questions and has mostly non-functional language. Another thing to consider is Ready Bodies Learning Minds, get the book and do the exercises. Learn about primitive reflexes, it is a good place to start. > > > > > > Thanks for understanding. I will think about the evaluation. I > > > know what you are talking about.
