Guest guest
Freddie inherited his stubbornness from me, not the DS. While it didn't do away with the stubbornness it helped Freddie to focus on listening to what I had to say about things. It helped Freddie with reasoning things. An example would be: Mommy, I want to watch TV. No Freddie we have to finish breakfast and get ready for school. Maybe after school you can watch a Wiggles DVD. Oh, OK. Before the Ginkgo, he would never have heard the "get ready for school" or the "maybe" part. All he would have heard was "No". That would have sent him into a spiral of arguing it over with me. He can still be stubborn over things like what toy he will take in the car or what snack he wants at school. But you pick your battles carefully. He has to have some choices of his own and he has to know he "wins" sometimes. nnaMommy to Freddie 7yrsFull Inclusion 1st Grade"We can change the world one classroom at a time" - Gail on Subject: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Re:Gingko ReportTo: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Date: Friday, February 6, 2009, 5:37 AM This scares me to even try Ginko with Nate. Guest guest
How long has Freddie been on gingko? Olivia has been on 20 mg for 3 days now. This morning, I witnessed her get right down to business at school!! How many mg do you give Freddie? Thank you! Guest guest
I agree with nna, I think it has helped the stubbornness as that typically shows up when she has a need or some objection and can't communicate it to me. The Ginkgo has helped with that.I think there are a couple of different kinds of stubborn- one is an inherited trait, and then there is the stubbornness attributed to the DS that I think has more to do with them being so much better with receptive language then the expressive and often times not understanding what it is we want them do. When that stubborness shows itself, I know it's time for *me* to address the root cause as she is trying to telling me something, or she is missing something. This is not to say that she is perfectly capable of understanding and then totally disagreeing with me!!! :-) I am saying, that they are not the same at all.
