Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the group and I am sure you are going to find it really helpful. My daughter who is also 12 suffers with 4s and I find this group so helpful and it helps me to help her in dealing with this on a day to day basis which some days are worse than others. Lets hope that soon they will have someone who will do some research and come up with something that will help all. Thanks To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Friday, January 9, 2009 3:59:05 PMSubject: re: my 12 year old son Hi Everyone Thanks for the responses..if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciatedSo far we have bought a noiseless mouse for the computer and my wife and I have changed our chewing habits which has helped immenselyI hope this isnt a stupid question but does this symdrone take control of your life or are you able to have a so called normal life
Guest guest
Hi again. Your question isn't stupid... I'm sure it is of great concern to you. I can't really tell you that it will take control of his life because for me, I still have a good life and do things I enjoy, etc... It all depends on each individual situation. Some of us are far worse than others, and some have more support than others. The fact that you recognize this problem while he is young is most likely going to help him more than it helped me. I didn't realize what this problem even was until last year. I think it's really wonderful that you are doing what you can to help him, and he will feel a lot of comfort knowing that you are trying. I certainly wouldn't allow him to 'think' he can't have a " normal " life. I would personally advise against allowing him to use earplugs to escape noise because for me it actually made the problem worse, and also made my ears more sensitive to normal environmental sound. I would only use them at school during a test or something when I really had to concentrate. Best wishes. Guest guest
> Some days are worse than others, but ya this is a daily, many times a day thing. Inconvenient and relentless. Will test the patience of a saint. When you get impatient or sick of dealing with the 4S always go back to empathy, your child cannot take a break, you can. Just try and make it as stress free as you can, but it is impossible not to make noises that annoy your child. You see we pick up on sounds of people we are closest to and spend the most time with ie. family at your childs age, that is the saddest part, you get bothered the most by people you love and you cannot control it. 4s can be so alienating. Self hatred or anger in general over having this condition should be expected because it is something that 27 years later I have to accept as part of my life everyday. Learning to love myself was tough too. Thank you for caring about your child. My family used the just get over it approach and I am not better for it. > > > > > > > Hi Everyone > > > > Thanks for the responses..if anyone has any advice it would be greatly > > appreciated > > So far we have bought a noiseless mouse for the computer and my wife > > and I have changed our chewing habits which has helped immensely > > I hope this isnt a stupid question but does this symdrone take control > > of your life or are you able to have a so called normal life > > >
